The defender punched the ball the split second it touched his hands, there isn't a player in the history of the NFL that would have been "expected" to catch that.

You know sometimes it's okay to just say the defender made a great play on the ball.

Not impossible but hard to do - a ball thrown behind, allowing the defender to close and get his hands in there makes it real hard.
