Another hypothetical Bryce poll

I want to win, but if the cost of that victory is Bryce with no competition next year, the price for the win is too high

I want to win short and long term and that requires there being competition in the QB room every year. Even when Brady was firmly entrenched with multiple rings, Billy B was still bringing in QBs behind him because injuries happen. Matt Cassel led them to 11-5 and should have made the playoffs as a wildcard. You don't settle in the QB room because you think you have a starting QB. Always try to do better. The ultimate goal is a SB. Do what it takes to win.

Think of the Packers during the Brett Favre era as well. They kept drafting guys to sit behind him and learn from their system and Brett, too. What they did was they created not just qualified backups, but a farm system where they traded well trained QBs that smart GMs traded for as starters rather than risking it all on a high draft pick.

I hope Bryce wins out this season because I'll never go against whatever brings wins to our team. Even if he does, though, there should be a QB in the wings, learning and ready to roll out at a moment's notice, whether for our team or someone else's.

In terms of Bryce in 2026 I don't think either outcome changes things much if at all. It's up in the air what level of competition the QB room will have come training camp. Personally having seen the QB room at work I know what the team needs but our decision makers have shown 3 consecutive years that they value comfortablility over good old fashioned healthy competition. Ultimately everyone is going to have to reconcile with the fact that Dan Morgan and David Tepper are in lockstep with one another on salvaging the trade and selection for better or worse and that will remain a factor.

I don’t believe we will win this game. 
I also don’t think losing it gets us a new starter next year.  No matter how bad it is.
 

But I want one and there is a button here I can click on that gets me one so what the hell, whatever it takes.

I think everyone would like to salvage the trade because that would be in the franchis's best interest. So, yeah, "for better," hell yeah. "For worse?" Hell no." I don't think David and Dan are willing to sacrifice any more seasons outside of the next one on this experiment, as it can still appear justified. One more season of the same or similar should tell everyone all that everone needs to know.

I share your hope that they feel that way. But we just don't know.

The unfortunate reality with Bryce Young is that he is now officially in year 4 as an NFL starter and we are still at a place where week to week we basically toss out all the bad every time he shows any minimal semblance of what could be perceived to be good even if it's something bare minimum that 31 other starters are supposed to be capable of. I've never seen this for another QB. Certainly never seen it for a Panthers QB.

I just cannot say with confidence at this juncture that our decision makers are going to approach further evaluation of Bryce Young going forward with the emotional attachment to the investment removed from the equation. We've seemed to have high standards for every other position on the field for going on 3 years now. I'll believe that's actually changed when I see it in action with my own eyes.
