Maybe Ryans was threatened by Bobby Slowik? That could explain why he gutted the offense and redirected all the resources into "his" side of the ball on defense.

Slowik was a pff dork who got the job of a lifetime, did well his first year, then got absolutely exposed to the point he spent last season as a position coach in Miami.

The risk you take when trading up, which I’ve never wanted to do.

But Tepper was going to land on Levis without a trade up, so I’m more than skeptical that any of the 2024 blue-chippers would’ve been chosen a year later.

That would have been much less destructive. He is already an afterthought in Tennessee.
I wish we could have afterthoughts.

edit: also, Ryan’s seems to be a poster child for  not hiring inexperienced one dimensional types to be your HC.
No clue how to assemble and oversee an offensive staff. Apparently.

And yet the Texans offense has only gotten worse since he left. His first season was by FAR the best of C.J. Stroud's career. Not saying he's the best O.C. of all time or anything, but he was doing something right.

Yeah, and once defenses got one look at it he didn’t have anything else.

there were a ton of videos hyping him up for doing all these new and innovative things to the point he was talked about as a HC possibility for the Panthers. He just didn’t have a response at all once the league had tape on him, and considering where he ended up it doesn’t seem like he’s highly thought of in general.

Looks like the Eagles are interviewing him for their OC job.

How about let's stop focusing on which of these two was the bigger mistake, just they are  mistakes.  Focus on the future.  Hopefully 2026 will be the last season with Bryce Young as our "Franchise QB".

Carr, Lagway, Meste, Raiola would all still be underclassmen who can return for more NIL money. CJ Bailey at NCST is another QB who could make a nice leap next year.

looking at the byounf and stroud stats yeah stroud way way better rhan young and has hope.  lookinf at youngs he is who he is and sucks.  looking at one playoff game of strouds he sucks looking at youngs atlanta game he is awesime.  gotta look at entire years or at least multple games in a row to really see anything.

That's my point also. Stroud has been to the playoffs multiple times. If we are just gonna cherry pick games, then this exercise won't matter.

The real question is if you had both of them in camp who would win out?   I say Stroud by a land slide. He would do much better her and they would be worse with Bryce. Maybe not as many turnovers, but certainly less explosive

Stroud needs some mental rehabbing. Change of scenery probably would be best.

He still has that form and arm. Just got to clear his head of whatever has gotten into it.  Build his confidence back up.  If that is possible. It is worth a try.

Slowik was who I wanted as our HC when we hired Canales.  He clearly had an idea of how to maximize Strouds talent. sophmore slumps happen, but he fell off a cliff this year and I believe it can be due to getting rid of him.

Some of the colossal Stroud copium on here from posters who like to use “cope” every third word sure is something.

If Stroud "fell off a cliff" this year as you guys are alluding to, then what does that say about bryce?  Stroud had better stats than young..........and his missed a month of the season.  So yeah keep coping

Yeah but young had better ymca, epa, PTO and IOU stats on days after a waxing crescent moon. Young clearly is better.

    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
    • Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
