Mike Kaye: LB Devin Lloyd could be a realistic possibility

I can't fathom why the Jags wouldn't tag him or just re-sign him.

Because franchise for linebackers counts all linebackers for the rate, including edges.  Basically any non edge lb is hardly ever going to be franchised.

FWIW, this is a good article about the conciliation prizes if we miss out on Lloyd.

I REALLY like Dean but curious how he fits here with current personnel and scheme. He screams a Dan Morgan type of leader for the defense and is everything you want in a leader of the defense.

5'11" isn't ideal but Bolton is also an undersized backer that is very important to that KC defense.

Looking at the cap space, panther will only land one big fish if they want. Lloyd should be on the top ten list, just a perfect LB to re-rail a team with rich LB play. He can do it all and no weakness in his game, all 4 downs and he can pass cover with the best. When he needs to tack or lay a hit, he brings the pain.

I feel Panthers will get priced out for his services.

I really hope they don't go nuts and do a bunch of restructuring

Tagging Devin Lloyd would be really expensive as CSX said.  28M.

Okay that is higher than I thought. The money has gone crazy.

I was talking about the cost of his 5th year option probably not being that much. Which I guess just 12 months ago they declined.  But that shouldn’t have been all that much.

The question goes back to where they declined to pick up the 5th year. That wasn’t really a decision made because it was cost prohibitive, was it?
They haven’t been real stable organizationally, for a while. But it just seems like that would have been a formality if they were happy with him. So my question would be, why did they decline?

Because they had a different staff that was not putting him into the best position to thrive, though he was still above average (unlike what some were suggesting during preseason), and that staff was fired.

I hear you but yeah like you say, above average. His numbers were good. You’d think it would be a no brainer.
Anyhow… I guess the new staff is also fine with him walking?

I hope if we sign him there isn’t some secret issue of his that led to him not being valued.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
