Why are we mad?  I just dont get it, who cares.  Its a camp body, he showed a little something in preseason, might have progressed over the last few years, that said, its not stopping us from getting a qb late in the draft.  I just dont get the outrage.

I think it is more disgust than outrage.
I was outraged three years ago.
I am reduced to mostly harmless and ungratifying heckling these days.

They're just prepping for when the Panthers take Max Iheanachor at #19

We are looking at a practice squad QB.  I think some people just want to be angry.  We aren't picking up anyone that will challenge for QB1 in mid April.

Im not angry. Im disappointed. I want to win. Anyone who has watched Bryce play the last 3 years and thinks that this team has in any way seriously addressed the glaring deficiencies in our QB room is deluding themselves. It's been explained ad nauseum how our FO has protected Bryce from feeling even slightly challenged or pressured. A GM without an interfering owner would have brought in another QB to at least give the team a better chance at winning. We just gave an extension to a QB that only got 3k yards on the last play of his 16th game of the year.

Indy admitted AR wasn't good enough by bringing in Jones to compete for the starting role. Tennessee drafted Ward to replace Levis. Stroud hasn't repeated his 1st year and Mills' performance was decent when he filled in after Stroud's injury and some were calling for him to remain starter. His future there is still in question even with a 5th year. We should have done the same, especially given that Bryce was benched.

Bringing in Grier is just another glaring billboard pronouncing the obvious. Dave Tepper still has his hands in the daily operations of this team. He controls the QB room because Bryce was his pick. Until Tepper finally admits that Bryce has barely lived up to the standards of a NFL Qb, we're going to spend our days reminiscing of when we were mediocre and finished 9-7.

It's just discouraging. We'll address every position on the field except the one with a glaringly obvious shortcoming. I had hoped Tepper really had backed off. Bryce's 5th year, Dalton's 2 year contract then trade, Kenny Pickett, Will Grier, Jack Plummer, and  Hendon Hooker say otherwise. It already feels like it's going to be a hard year of Panthers football to watch.

Neither do I. It's more likely he gets cut in July than he's the backup in September, but you can't rule out that possibility if he shows something in camp.

You are thinking waaaaaaaay to deep into a QB signed in mid April who might make the practice squad at best.  The whole Tepper Bryce bit it just boring at this point.  To even connect Tepper/Bryce to this signing is just absurd.  Pickett is simply a backup QB.  He was one with the Super Bowl winning Eagles but suddenly on our roster he is the worst QB ever and only here because we are afraid to give Bryce any competition?  No.  He is just a young backup QB to take Dalton's spot.  We have visited with Pavia, Robertson, King, and Payton off the top of my head.  We either didn't like this class or wanted to go ahead and have another QB in OTAs so we signed a cheap QB3/practice squad QB which is exactly what Grier is.  If we are wanting to replace Bryce, next year's class looks to be the one IMO.  Very few QB2s and virtually no QB3s are challenging even a struggling starter like Bryce.

@SmokinwithWilly

You won't get through to these folks brosef.

But for sure threads like this will be revisited when it's the fall and our QB1 is still struggling to throw for 150-200 yards a game.

I mean after how badly the Hornets just embarrassed their fanbase I would love nothing more than to see Bryce Young suddenly wake up one day and be throwing lasers up and down the field. But alas we do not exist in a marvel cinematic universe.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
