Not kicking a field goal on that last offensive series could have cost us the game.

I'm not criticizing the move, I know Rivera is the coach and I am not for a reason. I'm saying I don't understand it. Given the fact that are defense is notoriously full of holes, it seems like it'd more of a liability to leave the win to the defense than to a very solid kicker in Mare.

Please explain how it could be a good idea to kick the ball with 4 inches of water on the field? The Jags kicker barely got the extra point in the air and because of that it was almost blocked. And that was from the 10 yard line!

Was it actually that deep at the mark? If there was standing water in that actual spot I renounce my post and we can just gifbomb this thing

I think punting was the right call. Gabbert had thrown 2-4 passes the entire 2nd half. We'd stopped them on the majority of their drives, he was having problems fumbling snaps, they only had 1 timeout. I'd rather kick it into the endzone, and make them march 80 yards, than miss the field goal and give them 60 yards. He had only completed 1 20 yard + pass all day. and MJD is nobody to sleep on. 1 missed tackle and he gets 20 extra yards we saw it 3 times. Punting was def. the right call. Being up 6 they had to score a TD and we'd been dominating them the entire day Minus 2 big plays for the TD.

On a related note, I've noticed Captain has been really ineffective at stopping punts from getting into the end zone. I haven't noticed him succeed at that in a long time. I think we need a new guy for that job. It seems like I'm ragging on the Captain a lot lately, and I really do like the guy. I just think too much is being asked of him right now...

There was like under 2 minutes left when we had the choice to punt or kick the FG am i right?

If your already up by more then a FG they HAVE to score a TD to win or possible tie, Why take a chance at giving them the ball in better field position then trying to pin the deep and make them drive the field?

Theres only about 3 QBs in this league right now that can have a shot at doing something like that.

If the FG was missed, the ball would be at the 32 instead of the 20 where the ball was after the punt. Not that much difference which is why I think it would've been worth it to try to put the game away instead of punting. If we lost at the end, all these posters calling names and acting like they are better posters for supporting the decision would agree.

but the field was under water. trying to kick a FG is much riskier in those conditions. it's not just the possibility of missing the FG. it's having it blocked or something screwed up because things got messed up with getting the ball set up.

too many things could have gone wrong there. punting was the better choice. on a dry field or at least better field conditions a FG would have been a better choice, but it wasn't.

they know more than you.

Are you people stupid? A 50 yard field goal on a wet field where good snaps were being dropped all day long. I guess you missed the jax punter dropping the ball in the 3rd or Gabbert fumbling at least 3 snaps. And Mare's 35 yd field goal was just ugly due to the conditions. No way that would have been good from 50.

This would be a non issue anyway if munnerlyn didn't f up the downing of the ball that fell right into his lap at the 2 yard line. Or if Baker could directional punt worth a poo. How many times has Baker blasted a punt into the end zone when we just needed it inside the 20.

The coaches made easily the right call in this situation and it isn't close. If you want to complain about coaching there were plenty of other moments yesterday to complain about such as the quarterback draw in the first half where newton ran right into the d-line or the poor clock management that allowed jax to even get the ball back for the miracle drive to end the half.

the extra water weight on the ball made directional punting nearly impossible. he did good to get it where he did.

The announcers were saying that the ball would have been on the 40-yd line, which makes me think that the NFL rule is to spot the ball from where the kick is placed and not the snap (which kind of makes sense... its placed on the ground at that spot).

    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix has only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
    • The Canes physically dominated 2 of the top 16 teams in the league this calendar month. If you truly believe Florida is just that much more physical than us, then what does that say about the rest of the league? Why didn't they go 82-0 this year, if they are orders of magnitude better than every other team?
