Chud....

Could we make it so he stays here min. two more years?

The ravens wrote something into the contract of DeCosta to ensure he can't move to other clubs for the duration of the contract. He only signed it because he's pretty much guarenteed Ozzie Newsome's job eventually. I don't think Chud would sign something like that unless we guarenteed him the HC position at the end of Rivera's contract.

What does an asst head coach do? Adminstrivia and a few more meetings across defense and special teams? Just hope it doesn't take away from the offense and cause slippage.

Good for him though.

Basically just a pay raise.

I'm not sure Rivera would take too kindly to having any level of control taken after just one year on the job.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's clear that "assistant" is the operative term in the title. Chain of command is important. Rivera, as head coach, has to have the last say, and any other coaches working for the team have to be onboard with that. But if it results in a more integrated team concept and cohesive game strategies, and Chud gets the paycheck he clearly deserves, I'm down with it.

Rivera as head coach will get to determine whether Chud gets more power. After he was the one that pushed to hire him and Chud was not the FOs choice for OC to begin with if I remember correctly.

So if Rivera wants to promote him I can't see a problem as long as it doesn't cause problems internally with the rest of the staff. As for a pay raise, with the kind of money the Panthers can generate due to a prolific offense and a return to the playoffs, it will be money well spent.

it should have been in the plans already.

pay the man, give him a better parking spot and a new title on his office door and get back to work.

if it doesn't affect the salary cap (which it doesn't, durrrrp) then it shouldn't be a problem.

signed,

not my money

    • I still think another QB is brought in Day 3. Grier is camp body level at this point.
    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
