What are the chances McDermott gets a HC gig next year?

He's currently coaching one of the top defenses in the league.  He's young.  Seems like there will be a good number of open HC gigs this offseason.  Tampa and Minnesota for sure, maybe the NYG, plus a slew of teams that might tank and fire their coach.  On the short list: Washington, St. Louis, Houston, and Tennessee.  And then there could be the wildcard team that fires their coach even after a winning season like Chicago did last year.  This might be an offseason with a lot of teams needing a head coach, maybe Carolina included.  I'm worried McDermott, playoffs or not here in Carolina, will likely be coaching somewhere else next year.  And probably as a head coach.

Im very curious about this. Im not sure I understand how it works. Some young guys get jobs some dont. What is it that tells you when he's ready?

edit: a very wise dude I work for has told me that the only way you know is this "Do-ers do", you cant tell until you throw em in and let em swim. Still assessing this.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
