Cam haters, what you should have learned from the last 3 games

I would hope that all you Cam haters should have learned over the past couple of games that it's very presumptuous on your part to write the final chapter on Cam Newton in your limited minds.  Granted, the Panthers didn't face the best teams, but on any given Sunday even the worst of teams can pull a win out of their backside, as you know. This is the pros.  In any event, you must admit that Cam has looked great. Now, of course, Cam needs to continue to consistently make the proper reads and take what the defenses are giving him---whether that be with his legs or dinking and dunking in the passing. As you can see, Cam can do the things to lead his team to victory, and he can do it well (i.e., very efficiently).  It's just a matter of going through the process and making the transition from a relatively inexperienced collegiate superstar type of QB with a year at a football factory, to a seasoned professional in the NFL.

Likewise, it's no coincidence that Cam's play has improved as coaching and the O-line play has simultaneously improved. Give Cam time to stand in the pocket, and/or the green light (i.e., the support and motivation) to take off for the sticks when the situation warrants, and you see what a difference it makes. Right?  So regardless of how the season ultimately plays itself out, you should have seen enough to let you know that the organization and fans would be remiss to give up on a QB who has so much promise and potential if put into not only the right circumstances, but optimal conditions.

Where are all these Cam haters that posters keep referring to ? I read maybe 1 or 2 posts against Cam from trolls. I keep seeing these threads calling out Cam haters but have yet to see exactly who they are referring to.

they don't show up after wins. they most definitely have been here. there are several that showed up a couple weeks ago after being absent for a long time but as soon as things started turning around they disappeared.

there were also some in here who had kept those opinions quiet for a while who started to be more vocal once there were more criticizing cam, but then they started supressing those comments

some may have been won over, but for the most part the cam haters are quiet and/or absent when things are going well.

We are prisoners of the moment.

My analysis is that Cam has struggled against real pressure and excelled when he has time. I think the O-Line has certainly looked better but I am not convinced they are ready to stand up to top 10 defenses. We have lost to

Sea (ranked 1)

Buf (6)

Ari (5)

Newton looked terrible in two of those but actually managed the game well against Seattle.

We have beaten

NYG (23)

MIN (25)

STL (27)

Teams we may struggle against if my theory holds

TB x2 (9)

NE (8)

NYJ (4)

SF (10)

That is 5 games and we can only lose three while beating everyone else to get to the playoffs. If we are beating these teams behind Cam's arm I will drink the kool-aid. Otherwise I remain prepared to look back at 8-8 yet again.

Steve Smith said Cam has gone from playing checkers to chess.  Most of the criticisms I saw were about Cam playing checkers in a chess tournament--

Last year, I mentioned that Cam needed to step up and become a leader and quit pouting on the sideline.  I was butchered--Cam comes in this year saying, "I watched my tape on the sideline with my dad and brother--I was embarrassed."  So basically, people who blindly support Cam are not always right.  Shocker.

This is not about love and hate, it is about "has he arrived yet or not."  While I am happy that he seems to be playing better, I am still holding my breath.  People will have opinions that are different from yours-- It is OK and should not be taken personally.

Or maybe Cam has improved.....because Cam has improve on some aspects of his game.

novel idea, huh?

Well, actually that is what I said in the first paragraph in so many words, so the idea that Cam is improving isn't that novel, nor is it surprising in my estimation.

Pretty much. You have the boisterous handful, but the "amen" choir gets somewhat froggy and emboldened whenever the trolls rear their ugly heads.  It would seem that anyone who comes here regularly would know that, and it amuses me when people ask "Where are all these (fill in the blank) at?"

I still continue to have a wait-and-see attitude when it comes to Cam. I definitely believe that he is headed in the right direction, but I am not yet ready to say that he has arrived.  At the same time, I am no where close to calling Cam a bust, and I don't believe that we'd be doing ourselves any favors by throwing him out with the bathwater after the season if it comes to that (which doesn't appear likely at the moment).

I think dink and dunks is prudent for Cam until we get him another threat/playmaker on offense.   Maybe throw a bomb here and there obviously but I like this strategy.  I love the dump off RB screen and it's working well, if Stewart can come back healthy he's really good at those so that is exciting.

Still needs to throw the ball away before getting sacked.  But kind of hard to hate on Cam with these last two games.  He is doing what he should be doing.  But to say the "haters" is still not here is retarded.  Was he holding on the ball to long in the first part of the season? Yes.  Was he making good decisions? No

Has he worked on that and improved? Yes

I hope he keeps it up but if regresses I will be here to point it out.

    • Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.  RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.
    • Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.  But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.  Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.  Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet. Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.  Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.  Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.
    • Highest amount of OL salary cap in the league too. The Chiefs are behind us at 2 but we are ahead of them by a cool $23 million. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total
