Want Gettleman out?

I don't know about Panther fans being the laughing stock of the NFL. I do know that our fan base is not solid like many other teams. I think that has more to do with longevity, results, family/friends and wagon riding. The Panthers has been around long enough to establish itself but haven't put together a very good resume through the years. In my opinion, winning starts from the top down. The people at the top has to make good decisions and know how to communicate with players. More importantly, they need to know how to win so that they can coach and teach players how to win. I didn't sign any petition, now or previous, but Gettleman ticked me off by cutting Steve Smith. Yeah, I know, I just said that we need people at the top to make good decisions. I just don't see this as one of them. We gained nothing, to save a little and lot a lot. Smith was more than a fiery competitor, he was the heart, energy and fire of the offense. I constantly read people saying that so and so will be the next Steve Smith. I haven't seen any play that plays with his type of heart and determination.

Outside of about 4 contracts.... wasnt that bad z. His Carolina resume is at worst middle of the road.

I still think Hurney was a scapegoat to a degree.....Big Cat played a role he somehow gets excused from

I agree. If you look at the stats he only had two full seasons worse than 7-9 (2010-11), and two of the 7-9 seasons were due almost entirely to injury (2004 and 2007); if we had won the last game in 2004, we would have made the playoffs. We were in the top five of the league in regards to worst record during that period. Yes, Hurney was awful in 2009 and 2010. But the fact is, up until we blew up the team in 2010 he had built a good enough roster for us to be mediocre at worst and a playoff team at best.

Did he have faults? Absolutely. He was terrible in late rounds, overpayed (leading in part to our current hole) and was excessively loyal to players he drafted, and failed to find long-term replacements at QB, corner, and DT for most (if not all) of his tenure. From 2009 on he was really a bottom-10 GM. But that doesn't erase the fact that he consistently drafted franchise cornerstones in the first round, found a lot of gems in the rough in free agency, and brought us more success than any other GM in team history.

Some on here must have no lifes if you give a rats ass about being disrespected by rival fans. You do understand that this only a game and means nothing in real life.It is just a show..entertainment for a few Sundays in the fall and winter.Start a petition for something that is relevant in the real world and push for change....not a damn GM of a football team.

75% of genuine Football fans stereotype us as fair weather, ignorant fans. Petitioning to fire a GM after a 12-4 season only strengthens their case

LOL. Dude...just LOL. Link or you made this up...Oh wait. There is no link.

During playoffs, I heard several Patriot, a Giants, a Philly, and Dallas fan comment to me on how we now have a real GM, but rest assured we/JR would do something to screw it up

So shall we add your 5 acquaintances to the 16? Well the numbers never lie.

Finally this offseason people are aeeing what I've been saying for years. We are a bottom 5 fan base in the league. A majority of our fans are clueless clowns. We took a HUGE step forward this year. The only problem is with a fan base like this is we are going to need to maintain the success or we are going to erase everything we did this year. Unlike the Giants, Jets, Eagles, Steelers, cowboys, packers and redskins who all support their teams no matter what.

Let's compare a 1st generation team to multi generational teams. That seem totally fair. Growing up a fan is how 90% become fans. The Panthers are still in the infancy of their franchise.

Has absolutely nothing to do with this petition. Just read this last week in posts. Will tell you everything you need to know about this fan base. Even one of our Mods is ripping our GM in every thread after going 12-4. It is a joke

I would say that most fans rip their team when things don't go as they wish. That is NOT solely a Panther problem.

Sounds to me like these kids have grown up having a team to root for in Carolina and are going to be more emotionally attached die hard fans than the generation of 40 year old Panthers fans who switched from their old team. I do not think it is a bad thing. Smith is the kind of guy that creates loyal young fans and he is probably their first sports idol. Can not blame them, I envy them. Those are the golden years of sports fandom, I miss it. Then you find out athletes are only human as you get older and it changes things a little.

Well said. The Panthers are a 1st generation franchise. It takes years and years for fan loyalty to grow. It is the kids of today who will show their kids how to act. Part of that scares me.

Bingo. When you have friends asking what the fug your team is doing after having such a good year, thats when you have a problem.

You can't be much of a fan if you are embarrassed when your friends pick on your team. That is called trashing the opposition. It has been happening since their were fans to rag on.

Bunch those panties up. Grow a pair. And tell them our time will come. There are more teams without a SB than teams with one. But by all means. Let other teams form your views and values.

I've never understood the people who say "this is why we are the laughingstock of the NFL". Where does this even come from?

well, on a bigger scale, it's far from uncommon to see BoA stadium overrun with opposing fans...  so there's that.
