Agree/disagree: LaFell is better than Cotchery, Underwood, and Avant

who is talking about how good lafell is? certainly not everybody, hardly anybody maybe.

Obviously they think he's good enough that it's worth overanalyzing how good he is to comparably productive C-list wide receivers, but then again this forum has to just overanalyze the fug out of everything into oblivion so this thread will somehow make it to 300 replies even though it's worth less than a tenth of that

The minute LaFell has a Tom Brady fastball bounce right off his chest I want to see everybody keep talking about how good he is

It'll be fun seeing Tommy Tom lose his mind every time LaFell drops a pass.

I think Cotchery is the best of the group, after that you can make an argument for any of them. Avant is more sure-handed, though not as fast and not a red zone target.

LaFell and Underwood is a difficult comparison due to their styles of play. Objectively LaFell has been better thus far, though I prefer Underwood's skill set and he's actually a bit younger.

Really I think our WR corps has improved sans Smith.

Cotchery > LaFell (though LaFell is younger with more room to grow)

Underwood < Ginn (mainly due to return ability, though Underwood arguably looks like the better receiver)

Avant > Hixon (pretty self explanatory)

Lafell's hands are actually not that bad.  He made some tough catches.  But he was just so inconsistent.  He would have a couple of really good games followed by a couple that you had to rewatch the tape to see if he played at all.  Make a great catch followed by dropping one right in his hands.  His routes were inconsistent as well.  He would run a great route followed by one that was so bad it would cause an interception.  His blocking was the only thing he could really hang his hat on and say was good most of the time.

That, I think, will be the difference with the new guys.  More consistency.  I don't know that they will be much better than Lafell.  But I bet they will be more consistent.  Then again they won't have Steve on the other side of them for the defense to roll all the coverage to so....  Better or not, tough to say.  More consistent - yes.

Lafell sucks plain and simple, i was hoping everything changed after he had a good TC and it being a contract year but nope he sucks get it through your head people. Every-time he was targeted by Cam the ball would go off his hands for a INT, mix that with the wide open drop passes and you got yourself a surefire dud...............but for a bonus i'll throw in the fact that he also would half ass routes that cause INT as well.

crowning the guys we sign this year just because what they did last year is a mistake also, besides lafell it's yet to be determine whether this group can live up to our receiving core last year.

    • That should have been this year. Tough to sell to anyone worth getting when this crew is going into year 3 on the hot seat. I still think keeping Evero will sink them all after last year's showing. If/when he is scapegoated they need to show improvement or it's likely to be so eone else's problem next year. I do agree in principle tho, it all should have happened after last year's problems.
    • I've listened to some things that have calmed the "Bryce was flat out terrible" to just "he was really bad" in Week 1. It's Year 3 though, and that shouldn't be the barometer. I've got 1% hope left for Bryce, and that's just blind homerism coming out.  I'm scared that as much emphasis as the team places on advanced stats and PFF that the team *doesn't* think Bryce was that bad in Week 1. Couple that with so many of the QBs in the league looking rough, offense being down in general, and I feel like there's a lot of "what if's" going on in the building instead of facing the music.  Lose Week 2, and we should switch the main focus back to building/churning the roster, evaluating young guys, and hoping our next QB can have a Jayden Daniels level of impact. As we're all well too aware of, QB is a crapshoot a lot of the time. Admit we made a bad pick, and go draft another. And another. Repeat until correct.
    • I wouldn't want any of those starting as a rookie on day 1.  That said, we need a vet, that is not Andy Dalton, that can be the starter while a prospect grows and learns on the sidelines.
