I'd like some feedback on a job opportunity that has approached me

Long story short, I browse craigslist a lot and I like to motivate myself to apply to at least a few jobs a day if the job is suitable for my situation. I'm employed right now but what I do isn't exactly my career, and I work weekends which is very inconvenient.

So basically I responded to an ad a few days ago for a sales position with Verizon FiOS, the guy got back to me immediately and I interviewed for the position today. He explained that basically I would be going around to areas trying to offer upgrades or packages to people, and then would be compensated for each sale I made. Pretty straight forward.

The hours are 2pm-8pm which are actually very convenient for me, and this guy wants his employees to make about 6-10 a week. The money is great, and he even showed me a few checks from the past week in which these guys were making anywhere from 1,000-6,000 a week. Everything seems legit so I think I'm going to try and pursue this position.

I just wanted to see what any of you thought about these sort of jobs, or if anyone has experience doing this kind of work. I know we have a few salesmen working with some bigger projects on here, just would like some advice/feedback before I make the decision.

I was offered sales position like that straight out of college, that lady made it sound so good and almost impossible to pass up... When I googled the company and read previous employees reviews I realized that she was telling me about president circle people and no the other 99% of employees who barely made any money.

Be smart about it and do your research.

Very few folks are actually suited for this type of job and very few really succeed. Getting a job off of craigslist and having a guy show checks is all sketchy.

Depending on what you have now it may be a good short term solution but when is the last time you met a successful happy guy who tells you he is selling cell phone upgrades?

Having said that my first job out of college was pure commission sales driving all around NC. It was a terrible job but I actually learned quite a lot and being on your own trying to make things happen is a character building experience.

Finally I can promise you will not sniff $6k per week nor probably $1k per week.

the guy got back to me immediately

Danger, Will Robinson!

Anything where they get back to you right away, or make you attend an orientation with other people are huge red flags. I'd say hold out.

You will hate the job. Don't do it. Not to mention you applied to a job off CL.

Figure out what you WANT to do in life. If you don't have the schooling, go back. Build your experience and resume. Once you're ready, use LinkedIn to find a job. Connect with workers and recruiters for the companies you want to work at. Also, reach out to recruiting firms.

This is your life, man. Don't waste it selling cable TV. Christ.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
