QB Trade Speculation (Tin Foil Hats Needed)

Lets look at a couple facts and see what we can make of them.  Feel free to put down your copy of "Catcher and the Rye" and put on your tin foil hat. 

 

The Panthers have 3 QBs on their roster for the first time since I can remember. Makes sense with Cams offseason filled with surgery and rib fractures. 

 

However, with Cam healing from his ailments, that would make a backup QB expendable at this point.  Both DA and J-Webb have proven to be capable back-ups. 

 

The Panthers have been clearing cap space for no apparent reason.

 

Cam likely could have started week 1, but there may have been some pressure to showcase a back-up QBs talents.  It may not have been the main reason, or a reason at all but, it may have played a role in the decision.

 

OK, conspiracy mode over, what do you think.  Are the Panthers preparing to trade away one of the back-up QBs?

Your starting QB was out the first game of the season and has battled injuries. You don't trade away a backup QB who may be playing more than usual.

We need a good backup, and no one is going to trade for a quarterback that doesn't know the playbook during the season. Probably not going to happen.

We have a backup QB who is 35 , but was the player of the game.  We have a third QB in the wings to take his spot when he hangs it up.  Anderson is a class act and a team player. I think it would be a mistake to let him go.

If we trade anyone at this point it will be a DE - jmo.

On the one hand, after a showing like Anderson had, and the game they had, St. Louis would probably give us their first or second next year for Anderson. But on the other hand, I like the idea of knowing with certainty that we have a starting caliber backup if and when Cam gets hurt, and to be his mentor.

 

If I was Getts, I'd certainly entertain offers, but I honestly don't know what I'd do. Fortunately I'm not paid to make those calls.

DA or Webb would do much better than what ST Louis put on the field yesterday to be honest.

 

If it were DA, I would ask for Jake Long or a couple picks.  We have leverage after yesterday

Normally you trade guys you have in excess for picks on guys you need. Right now we need both Cam and Anderson as well as Webb. Cam was inactive and we don't know where he will be this week. So could we trade Webb, perhaps down the road. But not this week I wouldn't think.
