89 Conference Call

I think a lot of people are reading into people saying they are glad Smitty's gone as hate'n him.

Smitty was awesome here! "WAS"

If you think he was still the Smitty of old, well, he's not. You can say "look what's he's doing now!!" but, you can say that about a lot of WR's. Look at the rules! He's playing within them!

I still don't think him being dropped from the team has anything to do with his decline'n skills. because obviously, he's still playing at a high level.

More than likely, it was the "attitude" that was being looked at by the new regime at the top and thought that it'd be better for the young team that's being built to not have that "attitude" to learn from. (By example)

BTW, whoever said "We have Ricky Proehl" to coach the young players when Steve was here. Ricky became the WR coach last season if I recall. Wasn't he just a consultant or assistant before that? So, no, they didn't have Ricky to mentor and coach.

Not that that is here nor there. if I remember correctly Smitty talked about how he respected Ricky, but as a coach didn't really agree with his methods all the time... or how he kept talking about how he would soon be a better slot guy...? Smitty didn't want to do that, but Ricky was kind of moving him towards that?

Maybe I'm just too tired... but, those are things I recall from last season anyway.

And hell, when Ricky did get the coaching gig full time, look what the WR's under him did! They got better!

Smitty is Smitty. he makes no bones about it. Said it in his interview. He's just going to be himself.

I wish him all the best as a player, as long as he keeps playing. But, when it comes to the Panthers, I hope he's shut out.

In the long run, I believe the move of Smith, out of Carolina, will be big dividends.

That's my rant... sorry... had to finally say something, cuz I've not said much about it since it all went down.

the level-headed steve smith in that conference call is not the same steve smith we'll be facing on sunday nor is it the same steve smith that has been running his mouth about the panthers to reporters.

all sentimentality will be gone on his part and it should be gone on ours. you can be a fan of his after the game, but during the game he wants nothing more than to beat and embarrass your team. he is a key to their being able to win and shutting him completely down is in our team's best interest. i want for him what i want for any opponent, a painful loss. if they win, i want them leaving in a lot of pain as well. whether his team (which isn't the panthers) wins or loses, i want him/them hurting the next day.

Many thought Revis and Smith would go at it last year, but it was the opposite.

Could be the same on Sunday.

Bullshit. 2013 was just the ending of damned near criminal neglect when it came to getting the man some help on the other side. In a way it may be worse, because when you finally have the help here, Steve Smith is gone. That's fuging crazy.

And to think that KB didn't even have to fall to us. No KB and no Steve Smith. But I digress. The team would have been better with Smitty on it, and neither you or anyone else is going to change my mind.

Bullpoo back to you, the lack of help 89 did or didn't have in say 2005 has nothing to do with why he is a Panther today.

89 is a grumpy diva. That is why the old man version who isn't a big playmaker isn't here. Bc he isn't the ultimate team player.....and that trait is how old WRs stay on rosters instead of being rented guns

believe what? worth the money, yes absolutely. Would have benefitted KB immensely ? without a doubt.

listening to his comments only solidifies these points. Truth hurts  or like someone said before, ice up son.

oh, forgot Gman a douche= check!

Like he did all the other young receivers before Benjamin?

I'd add your first sentence isn't proven until he does it consistently for more than just the first three or four weeks.

And a GM's job is to win games, not make players happy.

I'm tired of all the motherfugers pretending that Smitty was old and done.  This tired theory has been discredited with his performance in the first three games.  Just shut the fug up and give the man his props, and hope he doesn't help roll us up on Sunday.

If he does it consistently for sixteen games and the playoffs, then it'll be discredited.

The Panthers are ready for cam to take over the team, and Smith would not have helped that cause out much. Cam and Steve weren't exactly friendly.

Ouch

    • It's funny how the teams with the great QBs stay at or near the top of the league every season.  Yes it is a team game, but the QB has the biggest impact in most NFL football games.
    • Look, no one is ever a perfect player.  Since the QB handles the ball on 100% of plays offensively (unless there's a direct snap to a RB or something), I can absolutely see where they get an outsized blame and gain from what happens at any given snap of a football game.   Theoretically, there shouldn't even be a stat or idea to a 4th quarter comeback or game winning drive because you should already have done that during the game.  Losers!  Right?  Just because you win late doesn't take away the fact you tried to lose the game for your team! I'm not a fan of that opinion, but again, I'm just a moron with a keyboard.   Bryce has limited tools.  Bryce has not inspired the same level of confidence in us as Cam Newton did in year 3.  I certainly get that.  We traded a TON of assets to get Bryce, and we still suck.  (I mean, since we've lost games, we're losers right?) I completely understand that some fans are just unhappy with a limited QB and a team that isn't performing well, unless the other teams are worse losers than we are. I will say this:  Bryce will fight until the end.  Sure, he's has some real loser football.   But in close games, he's doing his best to comeback (even against a winner of prevent D). Now is it better or worse if your QB plays their best ball in the first half and sucks 2nd half so long as they finish with 300 yards, 3 TDs for your fantasy points? Who said stats are for winners anyway?  The Panthers and Bryce has a long way to go.  I'm enjoying the winning right now.  Though I do start each game thinking "how will we fug this up today?" Because it's been such a poo show in the Tepper era.  Will he prove to be a legit starting NFL QB?  Maybe not here as evidence by our record with QBs who were high draft picks.
    • Ive never liked the term game winning drives because they include games where the QB was part of or was the reason the team was behind in the first place. Ive been arguing against this stat since the Delhomme years. It should only count when the QB is out of the equation of reasons why the team fell behind in the first place and is at least half the reason why he led the last drive to give them a lead. It shouldnt count if they just hand it off most of the time and the RB is on fire and they go down and score a TD or FG.
