Greg Hardy's trial might not happen until next year

If he's not guilty why would he not play in 2015? And if he is guilty why would his career be over? Brandon Marshall is still playing isn't he?

Hardy will be punished by the NFL even if he is found innocent imo. If he is found guilty, then I think he will be permanently banned from the NFL. Past player suspensions and rules will not prevent this from happening to Hardy in the new climate.

Isn't it in Hardy's best interest to play this year? If he takes the "can't play until the trial" deal, he won't get paid after this year. If he's not under contract after that, and the trial goes on until late 2015, he might not get any decent offers after that. Somebody needs to come up with a definite time detail- otherwise, couldn't we just refuse to pay him?

Can't the nfl let this suspension ride out for 4 more games and if Hardy us found guilty, fine him whatever amount he made in that amount of time?

This is the way I hope it goes exactly. Give it 4 more games, bring him back, and do it on the basis that if he is found guilty, be it this year or next, he will be fined $4.6MM which I think is roughly 6 game checks for him.

Then he can play, the public can feel like their outcry was heard and acted on, and the Panthers aren't completely fuged out of $13MM and one of their best players all year.

If he is found not guilty then oh well he lost six games but got paid at least.

Most logical way to do it IMO.

Not he's not cause he filed an appeal. He withdraw his appeal, he's guilty from the verdict of the judge

Im assuming thats what cpt was referencing

He would actually have to say he is guilty again. He can't "withdraw" a de novo appeal, it wouldn't make sense since the verdict is already deleted. He can only plead guilty right now.

Permanently banned from the NFL over a freaking misdemeanor? You have been listening to to many media talking heads  like Bob Costas and the ESPN jokers who  are always trying to pull something out of their ass to make a story.

I don't want hardy to banned. I don't think he should have been put on the exempt list at all. He should be playing right now. I wouldn't ban him from the NFL if it were my decision. It's not the crime, but rather the public outrage, and response from beer and car corporations that put Hardy in danger of being banned imo. The games Hardy is missing don't count toward his punishment. That is yet to come. A player can only receive one punishment per violation.

This is the NFL. Logic be damned.

Seriously though. He should be suspended 6 games for embarrassing the NFL. When/if he is found guilty, then he should receive his punishment for whatever he is convicted of.

The 49ers are smart in the way they handled McDonald because they realize how short of an attention span the American public has. The public will wave their flags after 9/11, call for gun reform after Sandy Hook, and they'll do their ice bucket challenges, but at the end of the day, nobody gives a poo.

This whole DV thing in the NFL will pass, and while teams like the Panthers caved and lost players like Hardy, the 49ers will keep rolling with Ray Mac and not miss a beat. If he is found guilty, sure hell get suspended for 6 games, maybe more, but if he isn't he won't lose a down worth of playing time.

I hate to give the 49ers any credit for anything, but they did it right, and JR caved to fuging ESPN and Bob Costas.

And this is the same reason he will never be a good owner. I have a strong feeling if it were up to Rivera or DG Hardy would be on the field.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
