Panthers lucky to have Proehl

Longtime visitors of the Huddle know how big I am on Ricky Proehl as a wide receivers coach. Over the past few seasons I have seen Proehl take a hands on approach to his guys and use his experience as a NFL player to teach the finer points of the position. 

Today was a good example of that. 

Ricky played defensive back as receivers practiced a curl with an ever so slight push off in the end zone. The kind of push off that gets six points, not a flag. Arms not extending fully, all well and good in the eyes of the NFL refs. 

Proehl provides a luxury for the Panthers at receivers coach that may allow them to need less of a veteran presence this year. Aside from looking like he could still suit up and contribute on the field, his real world knowledge of the game from having been there is just invaluable to this franchise.

Proehl still looks to be in great shape...  he was always such a smart player, makes sense that he's a great coach.

Lucky is an understatement. Panthers will be "lucky" to keep him in our organization much longer as I am sure he will start to get looks from other teams for better positions.

​I'm hoping he gets moved up to assistant OC or whatever it is that's the next echelon of positions before eventually "replacing" Shula.

​I would assume an offensive assistant first, as preparation for an OC position.  Of course, there's always a chance that another team wants him for such a position, before it comes up here.  In which case, he'll probably leave for the opportunity.  It's worth noting though, that Ramsdell was the "senior offensive assistant," and retired after the season.  That position hasn't been filled, and may not be, but it's an option.
