Why we need another WR, but not because of what you're thinking.

So, I actually think our WR corps with Funchess healthy won't be a dumpster fire, what I do think is our biggest issue right now is depth. I don't think we need to do anything fancy but I just don't understand what it would hurt to get a one year rental from any number of options.

The biggest reason for this is because if Funchess or Olsen or Ginn goes down this season is pretty much a wash. We need one more WR just for depth. I do think the answer is on our roster for a starting 5. I just don't think we have any wiggle room if any other necessary offensive piece at the WR position (and TE position obviously but nothing we can do there) goes down. We aren't working with supreme talent at the WR position but for our gameplan I think our WR right now will do the job just not if someone goes down. What say you?

Can't argue with that. I'm also hoping Boykin gets some looks with the first stringers next game. See if he can build a similar chemistry with Cam as he has with DA. He needs as many reliable targets as he can get.

We have depth at the bottom of our WR corps and our top 2 were set, that was why there was optimism for our WR corps cause we had not only our #1 and #2 set we had a bunch of talent at the bottom end

Now our top end talent is absolutely fuged, we just lost our #1, yeah we have had our deepest WR corps in a long time but it was only considered deep due to the bottom end talent, not deep as in we have 3 guys who could be a #1 WR

As inception like and almost confusing as that statement was it's exactly correct.  Someone asked if we were all excited about WR's before, why do we all of a sudden go from Excitement to Panic after one injury. 

The excitement was banking on KB developing even further and having Funchess opposite of him. This would allow a bit of pressure off of Kelvin along with learning room for Funchess.  Now this changes the entire dynamic of the team, Funchess may essentially get double teamed.  We still have a better base than what we went in with last year, the main difference being Kelvin had higher expectations being drafted in the 1st (along with filling the shoes of Steve.)

How can anyone be against a trade at this point? We got our most consistent player (Olsen) through a trade and ever since then we haven't even attempted a trade (not counting the Beason dump). This not risking the future crap has to be most wussy thing I have ever heard, who ever has that mentality has to grow a pair.

 

Jacksonville and Tennessee are stacked with you talented receivers, I wonder if they are willing to trade,

      Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.

      Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.

      very helpful.  I read back in this thread where they might try Jarvis at C--I thought he and Aho had good chemistry, however.  Nonetheless, he could expand his value there, and now we have a guy who can play jarvis' spot.  Freddie is a pro, no doubt--and as little as I know about the inner workings of strategy and positions, I could tell Burns was burning us at times.  I figured he'd retire and I was looking forward to it.  FWIW, they have Jarvis listed as a C on the 2025-26 roster.
