After the Carolina Panthers preseason game on Sunday night, I took to the locker room to speak to two players I felt made a tremendous difference in the second half. 

Brandon Wegher and Lee Ward. Both hard nosed throwback runners. Both undrafted free agents. Both fighting tooth and nail for a Panthers jersey this season. These commonalities have allowed Wegher and Ward to develop a common purpose on the field and a friendship off of it. 

Wegher on Ward

"He is a bulldozer man!" Wegher said with excitement. "Anytime he is in front of me I know I can follow him and we are going to pickup yards."

Ward was seen on the field Friday night effectively blocking linebackers and even defensive ends. It was Ward's blocking that sprung Wegher free on more than one occasion. 

"Lee is a great player, great teammate, great friend" he added.

Ward on Wegher 

"He is a great guy on and off the field. Probably my closest friend right now on the team. We have a strong chemistry on the field. He has had two great games in a row. I've enjoyed blocking for him and opening up holes for him." 

And on Wegher's future? 

"I think the sky is the limit with him. I think he is a starting running back in the NFL. You hear a lot of guys talk about how good he is as a running back, but they fail to mention he is a baller on special teams too. He is fast, he sheds blocks, he does it all."

Ward understands it is a numbers game right now, and neither player is guaranteed a roster spot. It remains very unclear if both, or neither, will have a locker in Bank of America Stadium this season. 

"I'm excited to see what the future hold for both of us."

Nice write up Jeremy.  I see what you're doing, LOL.  Link these two players so closely together in everyone's minds that keeping Wegher can't be separated from keeping Ward too,.  Yup...! :-)    Maybe it will work!

lol, my opinions have as much to do with what Gettleman does as an old shoe does.

If Gettlemen's words mean anything, then these 2 should make the team ("The best 53 players make this football team.")  Personally, I think both will get time with the 1's next week.  Whittaker and Brockel need to pay attention.

Your personal opinions aside, from a logical stand point these guys work well together.

My personal opinions are they are young guns in the making. You keep them and help them flourish until they are a household name. No question they have the potential to do so.

They have the fire and the talent.

      Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?

      It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
