When Don Shula watches Panther games

Not a Shula fan but the amount of haterade being consumed is comical.   Shula had no real WR talent in Tampa and was asked to run and play keep away....

Let's look at the talent he has been given this far...

Greg Olsen - best production of his entire career under Shula

KB - 1000 yard rookie season which is rare for a rookie in the NFL

Ted Ginn - only OC he has ever looked decent under and he got him paid only to go back to being garbage Ginn once he left

every other player has been an aged out vet or garbage....89 outside of his rage window when he got to play us former team looked the same in Baltimore post Panther game as he did his year under Shula.

So maybe he just needs some talent and can be decent....outside of a few examples NFL football is largely about just having talent.  So yeah, he isn't Chip Kelly.  Give him talent and talent has produced though.

correlation =/= causation

Doubt all you want Chud lovers.  Oh wow, the annexation of Puerto Rico.  That is just soooooooooooo awesome.

You know what the first play of the 2015 season will be?  Huh!  Do you?!   The Oop De Oop.  Yeah, that's right, Shula been watching Varsity Blues all summer just to stick it to you fools.  But I guess when Corey drops the obvious touchdown it will of been a dumb play.  Guess, what...no play inspired from a movie with the kid from Dawson's Creek is dumb!

I am certainly not the biggest Shula fan.  Lord knows I have not been kind over the past couple of years.  However, the last couple of games has given me hope for him as an OC in spite of the rage on this board.  Two things stand out to me:

1) When Anderson steps into the game, the offense moves the ball more effectively immediately.  He gets the ball out much quicker to the WRs for them to make the plays.  This has been the source of my concern for Cam's maturation as this is the closest comparison of apples-to-apples that we can get.

2) Cam's passes were much improved this past game against NE.  Both Olsen and Brown had outright bad drops that would have had kept drives alive (or even put points on the board) rather than stalling out.  I don't see that pattern continuing with Olsen, and I am hopeful that Brown can return to a more sure-handed version of himself from last year.

We don't have a dominant O-line, but I think we finally have enough to make a difference.  If Shula can continue to do what he did the past couple of weeks where the players execute, I think the offense can be a pleasant surprise to many on this board.

How many go routes did Cotch run last year?

How many were on 3rd and 2?

At the time, Cotch/Avant were all we had to run those routes.

Just to play devil's advocate, on the 3rd and 2 plays everyone bitches about... there are short, intermediate, and long routes in those plays, right?.  Not to mention RB's breaking out of the backfield.  Is it really Shula's fault that Cam chooses to go long?  Doesn't the QB choose who to throw to, based on what he sees from the defense?  What if the go route is to clear for a quick out?  Not taking Shula's side... but is it really fair to put decisions made within a play on him?

I would imagine on 3rd and 2....most OCs who run pass plays have a comparable number of routes that go further than 2 yards.

Tom Brady didn't have to throw that 25 yard incompletion on 3rd and short last week....he had other options.  OC can't get blamed for every single thing that goes wrong.  QBs choose who to throw to...

and maybe Cotchery is running deep on those routes to clear space for the shorter route plays to open up?  That is what different routes do..
