Panthers Trade for Jared Allen

Allen just passed his physical and became a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Not that it means a thing, but my gut's telling me this is going to work out quite well for the Panthers.  I've always liked JA.  Excited to see him in Panther blue.

Yeah I see him on the roster now. 6'6"/270- I didn't realize he was that tall. 

His high school was Los Gatos (the cats). He was destined to make a stop in Charlotte.

I'm still trying to let it set in that we've got Jared freaking Allen.  I think he still has it, just can't believe Chicago paid him trying him out at OLB in a 3-4.  My fingers are crossed for an exciting rest of the season with us on top.

I think he'll be big for the development of Ealy.

I hope we don't cut one of our DTs because it's important to keep them in rotation especially with Star in his first game back. If I had to choose anyone on the line, I'd choose Horton.

I hope we don't cut one of our DTs because it's important to keep them in rotation especially with Star in his first game back. If I had to choose anyone on the line, I'd choose Horton. 

 

Edwards hasn't looked good this year, and I don't even remember Cole playing.  Wouldn't be horrible to cut one of those 2.  But yeah, Horton would be my choice if we cut a DE

I'm not going to scroll through 35 pages of posts, so sue me if this has already been said: Kevin Greene was 34 when he came to the Panthers. Allen is 33. I see a lot of similarity, so my hope is this works out as well as that did, even if it's just for a year or two.

I'm guessing Allen will be used much like John Abraham was used for the Falcons circa 2008-2012.  Pass rushing specialist on 3rd downs/passing downs, subbed out on early downs and rushing downs.  But if Johnson misses extended time, he might be called upon to be a full-time starter, and according to the Bears fans I've talked to, he's terrible at stopping the run.
