Marcus Lucas and Brandon Williams to Miami

Both signed to the practice squad (per black & blue review).Still don't understand why they didn't land here, but good for them. Hope it works out....(even if Miami is a shipwreck right now).

because Brandon Williams was overrated by fans and Marcus Lucas didn't have a position. He was big and could catch well, but couldn't do all the things either WR or TE asked of him. I don't expect to ever hear much about these 2 ever again. Lucas has more of a chance to be somebody than Williams.

It's a nice luxury to have to release players that others teams value, really speaks to our depth and the difficult choices the FO has to make.  It like having Antonio, Julio and AJ on the same FF team and only being able to start two.  Ok, Ok, not that great, but almost! :)

This is so true overall talent level has increased the last couple years. But with that being said. If we released Brockel I'm dam near positive he wouldn't be picked up by anyone in the NFL. Maybe CFL nah who am I kidding he'd be at auto bell before the months out.

The Patriots would pick him up and he'd be a Pro-Bowler.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the roster management spectrum...

Saints trade Akiem Hicks to Patriots for Michael Hoomanawanui

The Saints are desperate for cap space and will save about $600,000 through this trade because Hicks costs more than Hoomananui: Hicks has a base salary of $1,529,500 this season, while Hoomanawanui has a base salary of $800,000. That means the Saints will pay Hoomanawanui $658,000 for the rest of the season and the Patriots will pay Hicks $1,258,778 for the rest of the season. Both Hicks and Hoomanawanui are free agents after this season.

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
