Devin Funchess and Kony Ealy

Proudiddy

Recommended Posts

I almost made this thread a few weeks back, and although the title would have been the same, the subject definitely would not.

I, for once, didnt go Proudiddy and decided to wait...  just let it play out.  And im glad i did.

I really did not think Devin would develop or show any consistency or dependability this season, or possibly ever.  Drops typically arent something guys just get over, but if he maintains this level of play from the last two weeks, i am ecstatic.  Credit to him to keep pounding and credit to Cam for never losing faith in him.  He has come up BIG the last two weeks, and i am happily eating crow.

And to Kony...  I'm enjoying a heaping second serving lol.  The reason both of them stood out to me before was because i was worried with our franchise's history of second round busts, that maybe regardless of the GM, it just was a bad round for us lol.  Thankfully, they both seemed to have turned the corner and i am happy to admit i was wrong and couldnt be happier with the results.

Funch was extremely efficient today. I think he was only targeted on his 2 catches and didn't play many snaps aside from those 2. And Ealy has been a monster this year. Not quite Hardy (on the field) but he could get there and he's ahead of where Hardy was at this point in his career so you gotta love it. This d-line rotation will be great when we get CJ and Dwan back.

Obviously next season is the absolute last of things to think about right now but if Funchess keeps on developing then him and Benjamin are going to be LETHAL next year, as far as this years concerned I wasn't expecting that much from Devin other than signs of progress and that he was grasping the offense, been a tad slower than expected but the potential is starting to be shown

It bodes well for us to be getting like a half dozen quality players from each draft, much better than the 1 or 2 we were used to

Gettleman's drafting prowess makes it possible for him to give away some picks as he did this year to move up the board.  5 great picks by Gettleman > 7 or 8 picks by other teams, especially when DG also finds so many UDFA gems and "scrap heap" guys who shine here.

Funchess is simply playing and improving. He is showing flashes of his potential which is why I was so high on him this offseason. I figured it would take a year or so for him to pick things up. But he has done well the last few games. I hope he keeps improving. We are going to need him in the playoffs.

    • yeah, now it's going to get awkward.  The team circles pay attention to all this stuff.  All the wives and girlfriends see the posts.  They all talk like everyone.  Football is just a normal world outside of the fact they play a game for lots of money.  Gossip travels. They know the Theilen's want out at this point.  Carolina is now the disappointed failed trade location.    So now AT takes sort of an inhouse hit in Carolina IMO
    • Ummm... The dude looked like he was about 180 pounds soaking wet with us (I don't care what his listed weight was/is) - he would have been destroyed in the run game even more than our current and past crappy ILBs. The problem is we primarily play 3-4 or nickel/dime - there is little room on the field for him because he isnt an edge LB blitzer and he can't cover for crap. The only thing he can do kind of well is be an in-the-box safety that can try and beat blockers to the spot because of his athleticism. Washington was able to make him work last year because they used him solely as an in-the-box safety and almost exclusively ran a single high FS. The funny thing is they had good yards/game stats against the pass despite most of their secondary having embarrassingly low PFF grades. Washington was also terrible against the run, which might explain why they gave up so few yards passing.
    • Just get the deal done. We've teased it so much that the Thielen's expect it. Now we run the risk of our veteran WR locker room presence becoming disgruntled. Just take what we can get, make him happy, and get future assets while freeing up snaps for guys who will be here beyond this season.
