Alfred Morris? If Stew is gone...

Let me start with a disclaimer, I don't make "let's sign this guy" threads.

Having said that, the popular belief is that Jonathan Stewart will not be a Panther next year.

So, with Gettlemans reputation of "bargain bin" players, how does Alfred Morris sound as a replacement?

As Collinsworth would say, "here's a guy" who has had 1,000 plus yards rushing every year since entering the league, minus this last year. Morris was somewhat inexplicably replaced with that big, goofy looking goon Matt Jones.

Morris seems to have been written off, and fallen off the radar of the entire nfl. 

Can Gettleman get an affordable deal and take a flyer on him, if we don't resign Stew?

Popular belief with who?  Stew will be back.  He is due $9.5 million next year but $7.3 of that still counts towards the cap if we cut him.  He is easily worth more than the $2.2 million we would save by cutting him.

I think Stew returns as well, but hypothetically I'd rather go after Lamar Miller.  Never been a fan of Morris.  He's a liability as a receiver.

I wouldn't say that it's a popular belief that Stew is gone. Whether he stays will depend upon the architecture of a new deal. 

Albert Morris seems like a realistic option (as does Eric Weddle at Safety), but I just think that CAP and Wegher should be able to carry the load as long as they master the blocking aspect of the job (which is another reason why I believe Getty will do what he can to keep Stew here).

Not entirely true. If Stewie gets designated a Post June 1 cut we split that 7 million into next year. We would then save, roughly 5.5 million this year.  Which is significant.

EDIT:. So then the question becomes is there someone on the roster who can replace his production or is there someone we can sign for cheaper than 5.5 Million so as to benefit financially from cutting Setwart?

I like Morris a lot, and I think his running style fits with us. If JStew is gone, he'd be a good one to have. Even if JStew stays, he'd be an upgrade over Fozzy if he comes cheap. I haven't seen enough Redskins games to rate his blocking.

Stew will be a Panther next year. I have no doubt about that. Stew is vital to this teams success. We can bring someone in to compete to be his backup, as long as he stays healthy, I see him as a Panther.

Post June 1 cut its much more appealing. 5.75 cap savings... Stewart is going to be a really hard decision either way

I perfer nto to go RB in FA, with or without Stew. If we lose Stew then it's time for CAP to step up.

Why wouldn't they just offer Stewart an extension.  Bringing in Alfred Morris doesn't excite me, hes not on Jstew's level.  Extend him, and lower the cap hit this year and going forward.  He has a spot on this team no doubt...
