If Cam Newton wasn't a Panther...

Falcons isn't a good example at all. I hate their QBs no matter who they are. I hate Matt Ryan, I hated Michael Vick, I hated Joey Harrington, I hated Doug Johnson.

If he was on the Bears, or the Eagles, or Chargers or some other team I'm indifferent to, I would absolutely love him.

If you go to some forum with fans of all teams like r/nfl you'll find that the vast majority of fans love him. The only people who hate him are the same sort of person who hates him in our own fanbase. You know the type.

I mean yeah, if he is a Falcons player, Panthers fans would react differently to it.  That is a divisional opponent.

Generally though, yeah I would still love Cam Newton.  I love athletes like him, guys who don't give a crap what others think about them and just do their thing (Kobe Bryant, Russell Westbrook, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, etc.).  It makes it even better that he plays for my favorite team.  It's the perfect combination.

Obviously if he were on another team in our division I'd hate him and find reasons to hate him like I do with Brees, Ryan, Winston, etc. but if he were on some non-Patriots AFC team and he wouldn't beat us every year then I'd like him.

I've always enjoyed football celebrations. I mean, why the fug not? Loved Chad Johnson, TO, Icky, Billie White Shoes, Randy Moss, Smitty, all of them. Yeah, even Sanders when he played. And I understood when they walked out of press conferences, etc that I was never going to have the chance to do what they do so there's no way I could ever tell them how to act. I have been judged my whole life so I refuse to judge others.

But that doesn't mean that I have to like the team they're on or that I won't laugh at good jokes at their expense. :)

I would still like him because of the generational, cultural and racial similarities. I relate to him.

I actually liked Mike Vick while in ATL for the same reasons. I obviously rooted against him when he played us, but during his playoff game against I think GB, I was rooting for him. He looked like me, he was cool, I was a fan.

So yeah, I'd still be a fan of Cam. That being said I could see why people wouldn't like Cam. I'm not that dense.

But using the Falcons as an example is bad. I'm mean, I don't like Drew Brees and he's literally as likeable as a player can be, doesn't matter, I don't like him. He's a Saint, same can be said for Julio.

This, and like emhoward said, I relate to him. I'm just glad that one of these once in a generational type players plays for the team I root for.

As Panthers fans, we love our qb. We defend his on field antics, we defend him when he walks out during pressers, we love the guy no matter what.

So my question is this; Cam Newton is wearing a Falcons jersey, he comes to BOA and does his usual celebrating... are you still ok with this or do you join the media and other fans in condemning it?

I was asked that Sunday night...

I don't have any weird insecurities toward confident personalities and I'm not racist, so I'd probly only be jealous he's not QB for my team.

However, I don't have to be jealous because he's a Panther.

I think that you have to distinguish between the person and the player, regardless of the team. Sure I hate when Brees is killing us on the field, but I don't dislike Brees.

I like Brees as a person and a player. I don't like Kaep as a player but i'm sure he has reasons for the way his is in post game press conferences. I do't dislike Manning as a person or a player but I don't like hearing the way he discusses things about football. I really don't have any issue with any player as a person because I don't dislike people for their personalities. People are different and I think that should be embraced but people seem to enjoy having categories that they can be lump into. There's a definition in Psychology for this but I don't remember it right now.

At any rate, Cam is our quarterback and I respect him as a player and even more so as a person.

Simply because one doesn't fit the archetype of a leader or a group does not mean that he isn't a leader. Cam being so down about the loss can impact the locker room in a positive way. If people respect him the way they say they do then they will feel more personal responsibility not only for someone they look to for leadership but for their own actions. Cam gave the locker room speech for the Arizona game and you see what followed that.

The team with the better match-up won and Sunday and that is all. Moving forward, people should not be turning on Cam but embracing the fact that he was upset after the loss. The continuous losses to the Seahawks propelled us to where we are now. Losing the Super Bowl will be the motivation for the work Cam puts in this off-season. Expect more 2015 Cam next season. This wasn't a flash in the pan season for him, this was a preview of what's to come.

Sure, definitely. But distinguishing can be challenging at times lol.

    • Yea when teams see a gun charge they rightly pause but this seems like a big misunderstanding.
    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
