Irrational & Realistic FA Wishlists

I thought this would be a fun exercise: pick a few free agents you would without a doubt like to see on the Panthers.  You can be realistic or just type up some high paids you'd love to see.  I'm cool with either route.  Maybe even guess who you'd like then who you think is a guy we may get.

Here's a decent resource with minimal ads: http://www.scout.com/nfl/a.z?s=127&p=9&c=12&nid=83&lnid=83&yr=2016

I'm posing this because I think this is a really spotty class but also believe there's talent to be found, it's just about the where and the one's that may be overlooked at the moment.

On my end, I've got a few in mind that I like for us: David Bruton (S), Robert Ayers (DE), Marvin Jones (WR), & Mike Harris (OT/G)

What say you?

I really want Jeffery, but he may want Dez money or around that.  I know KB is coming back but it would be great insurance and when Jeffery's contract was coming up KB's would be as well.

I would like Hardy back, but it's not happening.

I really think we need to work on offensive line and stack the WR core.   I think we draft a DE to go with Ealy and also use Addison/rotation on the other end.

I'd like to keep Norman and resign Short.

I think Gettleman has proven he can fill in defense with value signings and picks.

I think it's time we make a "smart" splash in Jeffery.  I'm not saying sign everyone, but that would be a great pickup.

Jeffery is one of the most injury prone players I've ever seen. Not like Gronk where he'll have a season ending injury every other year but he has numerous lingering injuries pretty much the entire season and always misses a few games. He's going to demand a lot and to me it's not worth it. I like him as a player but with KB coming back and Funches and Ginn/Philly I don't see us spending money on him. As far as a "splash" signing goes I could see it at one position only... DE. And even then I still doubt it. I'll be happy if DG continues to do what he's done the past few years. Pick up reasonably priced back-end free agents who fit our culture and scheme and draft BPA and keep our own talent. We made it to the Super Bowl this past year without KB and Bene and we're not losing anybody important. Adding a few more signings and draft picks and continued development from our draft picks from 13, 14 and 15 I think we've got the best shot of anybody at winning it next year.

Edit: Want to add I could see us going after Weddle. Not sure if he'd be considered a splash signing at this point but I think it's possible he's a Panther next year, and I really hope so.

    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
    • It's a step up in competition as well. The gap in athletic skill is narrowed from what was faced at the college level.
