Bucs coach admits they're chasing the Panthers

After serving last year as the Buccaneers offensive coordinator, Koetter took over as head coach in January after the Bucs fired Lovie Smith . Prior to that he spent three seasons in the NFC South — seeing the Panthers twice a year — as offensive coordinator of the Falcons.

“Right now, Carolina has set the bar,” Koetter said. “[There was] a long time when no one could win the NFC South back to back and now they’ve won it three times in a row. Definitely they’re the team to beat and that’s why we added the players we did at the positions we did and with another draft, we’re going to try to close that gap.

“There’s always somebody you’re chasing, whether they’re in your division or not. You’ve got to give them their credit and we’re going to do everything we can to knock them off.”

There are quite a few teams in the league that can say that. We are what most teams aspire to become. There are far more that need to read the book, than there are who have already read it. Gman not only read it, he memorized it.

They're copying both Gettleman and Hurney, tho. They got 4 starters out of last year's draft, got a good FA signing with Robert Ayers much cheaper than Olivier Vernon, and re-signed Doug Martin. Bad news is, they overspent by giving Martin $35 million, brought in the off-the-field distractions of Miko Grimes, and paid one of the worst guards in the NFL, J.R. Sweezy. $33 million.

They can copy our methods, but they can't copy our results.

The Bucs are just so...average. 

Carolina has top-shelf talent at every level of offense and defense. How many teams can say that?

The Panthers are built to be dominant and is certainly not a copy-cat team. This team was built to beat Seattle, not to copy them. 

I can't name a team other than maybe the dominant Steeler teams that this team is built like, but we are younger and better up front...especially on the defensive side.

Sorry buc fans. We can still roll out Derek Anderson for you guys and come out with a W.

We actually are built a lot like Seattle and there's nothing wrong with that.
