Sterling Shepard had private workout for Panthers

I would be if either Henry is on the board still.

I trust Gettleman's decision, but I'm not all that in love with either Henry.  I'd take Shepard over both of them.

I'd take Derrick over Hunter, but what worries me about Derrick is that HIGE RBs don't have a ton of history of success in the NFL.  With his running style and standing 6'3", he's going to take an absolute pounding.  I could see his career mirroring Brandon Jacobs'.  Some promise early, but ultimately derailed by injuries.

I'm hoping for him to be the pick at #30.  I rate him over the Henrys but behind Coleman.  I think people really underestimate just how good he is at creating separation quickly and consistently with excellent routes (he runs the full tree and he doesn't drop the ball).  His combine stats and tape show that he has very good athleticism - he can play outside if we need.

So obviously I would be thrilled with getting him in Round 2.

I keep thinking this draft may play out a lot like the 2014 draft.  A receiver that will be called a reach in round 1. A pass rusher that falls further than expected in round 2 (maybe a trade up?).  An underrated big school O lineman and then a DB that will contribute early.

We could trade back a few picks in the first, giving us another 3rd round pick. Use that pick and our other 3rd or a 4th to trade up. Grab Hunter Henry and Sterling Sharpe in the early/mid second.

If there's a valuable enough QB that's dropped to the bottom of the 1st (or even one who is considered an early 2nd round pick, like Connor Cook, after all the "top" QBs are off the board), some team that wants that QB might want to jump ahead of Denver because you KNOW Denver wants a QB.

If Cleveland doesn't pick a QB with pick #2 and a guy like Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook is still sitting there when we pick... ???

A few?  You sure about that, Frank?

And I don't think Sterling Sharpe is still draft eligible.

(yes, I know what you meant, but I couldn't pass it up) :)

According to experts and analysts, it was rare to see Shaq Thompson going to anyone not named the Panthers last year.  He's not going to last to 62, and if the Henry's, OTs, DEs, SAF, etc aren't there at 30, I say go for it.  There are a handful of guys that I would want more than him, but depending on how the board falls on draft night, Shepard wouldn't be a poor choice at 30 for me.

My order of preference at #30: Hunter, Sterling, Derrick.  Would be happy with any of the three.  Prefer Ogbah or Dodd if available though.  A draft position appropriate OT or William Jackson the Tiga or Kendall Fuller after the Henrys and Shephard.

Want this kid real bad.  He is exactly what Cam needs with him sitting in the slot.  I expect him to fall in the late 2nd and will be wavering around our spot in the 2nd.  This WR class is no where near what they were hyped the last 2 years.  With the amount of them drafted high the last 2 seasons I really don't see many going off the board high like the last 2 years. 1 maybe 2 will go off in the 1st then 1-2 will go towards the front end of the 2nd.  Shepard will be around the 5-7 WR range due to mopt saying he's not a outside future #1.

We get him and I see a future Randall Cobb.

Everyone likes to throw out the "trade down" scenario every season without regards to the fact that someone actually needs to want to trade up.  And in most years, it is nothing but a pipe dream.  However, with Denver being right behind us and definitely needing/looking to draft a QB, we are in a prime position for a trade back.  Someone in the early second round will want to move ahead to get a QB if one is still there.

I actually like this scenario this draft for us.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
