Damiere Byrd should've had 100+ yards and a TD

He finished with three catches for 36 yards but Derek Anderson wasn't doing anybody favors on Saturday. At least he didn't quit throwing it Damiere as he did give him consecutive throws that made it feel like Byrd was the only WR out there.

First, the underthrown deep ball. Anderson was rushed but alll he needed to do was put some air under it because Byrd had a few steps on both the CB and the safety. The throw made Byrd slow down and drift back toward the safety. If the throw is angled outside, it's a foot race and he has a 5 yard head start.. Byrd may will score here.

Second was on a route cutting to the outside that would've been consecutive catches for 15+ yards in a two minute drill and stopped the clock with first and goal at the very least. Anderson threw it behind him when Byrd had wide open running room to the sideline. If Anderson hits him in stride and Norwood gives him a block...

 

Third was the missed throw on 3rd down in the endzone. Byrd cuts across the middle and this should've been a layup. Again, Anderson throws it behind Byrd though he does get a hand on it this time.

 

 

Coaches know how close this kid was to a headline game. I can't see them letting him sniff the practice squad, he's come so far in just a year and he is a threat every time he touches the ball.

We CANNOT risk this man sending him to the practice squad. Ginn is a FA next year and will be 32. Not saying we don't bring him back, but in case we DO lose him, Byrd is the closest thing to that threat that we have. We have got to find a way to get this man a final roster spot. This dude has some serious wheels and talent.

Make no mistake, D. Byrd is as good as he is thanks to the time and mentoring that Derek Anderson has put in with him.

Not to mention potential... not saying he'll turn into Smitty but with another offseason of training + 5-10 "more" pounds of muscle mass with maintained speed and we may have something real special on our hands. I already saw a little fire in him after that catch in camp over bene  ....just wait until he plays with full confidence. 

If he lands on PS... he'll be soon departing for Baltimore, Miami, Chicago, Pitt, or NE.

Yeah I read Anderson specifically worked one on one with him and it shows. The Titan's commentator even said the way he was targeting him seems like they get reps in after practice. 

All the fringe WRs are lucky to be working with a backup like Anderson but he was not particularly sharp on Saturday.

Byrd's made the strongest case this preseason for a roster spot. He's got valuable special teams ability, and he's got potential to be the heir of Ginn. He's gonna snag a spot easy, just because of how he's made himself really useful. He's got a lot of potential to become an elite, and the coaching staff will not ignore that. I believe he's already made himself a lock on the roster. 

My predictions for the WR spots: KB-Funch-Ginn-Philly-Bersin-Byrd. They'll add a 6th spot this year and compensate at another position. This is the kind of talent that's just hard to let go of.

I have a feeling that Norwood may take bersin's spot. Right now it's a coin flip.

Igo thinks there's a good chance, considering his updated roster projection. 

I think that even if they do keep five, they will keep Byrd over Bersin due to his versatility and explosiveness. He is just too much of a dynamic receiver to let go.

Also you can put Bersin on the practice squad and I'd be shocked if another team picked him up, Byrd wouldn't last long on it.  Same with Norwood, he'd probably be pretty safe on the practice squad too.
