Cold dose of reality.. It will take a miracle for the Panthers to make the playoffs this year...

Hi all... I am here to be your Monday downer...

With the records in the NFC East, you can pretty much bank on both wild cards being NFC East teams. Minnesota and Detroit could flip flop at the top of the North, and one could slide in there and take one, but meh. Washington's and Arizona's ties could come into play as well.

Basically, what I am saying is, that the Falcons have to collapse, lose at least 3 games, and we have to win out. That is basically our only shot.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but it doesn't look very likely at all at this point.

Atlanta has Arizona, Kansas City, San Fran, and New Orleans at home, and they travel to LA and to Charlotte. Our best hope is that they drop two in a row at home the next two weeks, then we beat them at CLT in week 16. Maybe they fly to the west coast and lay an egg in LA and NO plays spoiler? A guy can hope.

Either way, we pretty much have to win out.

If we lose another game and they get another W, you can pretty much toss the rest of the season. In most scenarios I have run, there just isn't much hope of us getting a wild card berth. We have to win out, and we have to take the division.

At this point it's far better for the Panthers to lose out than to win out. There are some critical areas of depth that could be addressed in the draft, and the team should have cap space to fill a few key starter positions. Grabbing a premier pass rusher or OT in the top 10 would be crucial. Let's keep in mind the best Panthers players, Cam and Luke, were both top 10 selections.

Here's the thing: Atlanta will give us a chance...in fact, we are having this conversation because they have already started to do this. They started out on fire and guess what? They are 6-4 with a marginal divisional lead.

So we need not worry about Atlanta. We just need to start worrying about Oakland, and then continue to take care of things on our end.

Dumbest idea ever. We are only two games out of a division win. If we don't win out we still get a high pick and if we do we get a playoff birth and get to poo on the Falcons.

We are really behind the eight ball as far as tiebreakers go with Atlanta. In order to even have a chance at winning a tiebreaker against them we have to beat them and they have to lose to NO in week 17. That's just to be even with them on division record to get to the next tiebreaker which is record in common games. They beat the Packers and lost to the Eagles. We lost to the Vikings and still have to play the Redskins. If we beat WAS and finish tied then we will have the same record in common games. Lose that game and finish tied and we have a better record in common games and win the tiebreaker. Next tiebreaker after common games is record in conference games which we have a bit of an advantage with since we have lost our two AFC games so far and they are 2-1. They beat KC and we win that tiebreaker. They lose to KC and we are tied there too assuming we win out. If we lose a game to an AFC team then we will win that tiebreaker.

If we are tied in conference record then it goes to strength of victory which is really impossible to figure out at this point.
