Are we going to waste another first round pick on defense?

Garrett is not in the same stratosphere as Peppers as prospect.

I would take a any OT really, since it would be a MAJOR of what we got now

OTs like Matt Kalil, Luke Joekel, and Greg Robinson? There have been a ton of highly touted rookie OTs bust in recent years.  Probably more busts than hits. Not sure why, because an OT used to be one of the safest high picks you could make, but that seems to have pulled a 180 recently.

I wouldn't complain about either Garrett or Peppers as the pick, but honestly, they're probably the only two defensive prospects I wouldn't complain about with our 1st rounder.

I could be wrong, but we've got to take a shot at an OT. Every year it seems like "there's just no OT to choose from this year." See, instead of taking 3 damn CB's last year, the tag should've been applied to Norman and some other depth could've been drafted; maybe an OT.

there was already a steep learning curve but OTs are coming out of college programs less and less prepared to play in pro offenses every year

This is because of non-NFL offenses becoming the focal point of college teams, so more OTs come out not prepared for the typical NFL offense.

I agree and I think it's pretty obvious.  Seems like more and more college offenses focus on getting the ball out of the QB's hand as quickly as possible with a spread passing attack, so most of these OTs are big maulers who honestly have poo for technique, they're just ideal physical specimens because in college their main focus was run blocking and the ball was gone so quickly in the passing game that they could just get away with pure physical dominance in that aspect.

In this stacked egde rusher class I wouldn't blame them.. If they take a CB though I'll riot

Given our defensive scheme, I agree.

But... we're assuming Ron will be the coach.

If he gets bounced and we bring in a coach and a DC who wants to play man up, I could absolutely understand a CB.

    • Did we really shut them down though? They had 369 yards of offense.   That is 9 more yards than they average per game and 53 more than we give up per game this year.   If a team gave up 369 yards per game on defense, they'd be the 7th worst defense in the league this year. Yes, I will give our defense credit for having the 4th down stand near our goal line as well as creating the fumble that stopped their first drive, as they did rise to the occasion then, but even the INT was just a ridiculous play/throw and handed it to us and they also missed a FG. We didn't force them into a single punt all game.  We had 1 sack on a QB who had 37 pass attempts. They had drives of 56, 49, 50, 43, 58, and 71 yards (while we only had 2 over 40 yards ourselves). We bent, a lot, but never really broke, partially due to the Packers own mistakes, that's a far cry from "shutting them down" in my opinion.  Again, this is why I'm critical of us after a day like today, I'm able to look beyond a final score and evaluate how we played on the whole, and we keep squeaking out these wins despite not playing well at all.  And yes, that is what great teams do, but they also play well in the majority of their games, where as all we seem to do is squeak out ugly wins without ever playing all that well. I'm not saying I'm unhappy that we won, I've never once said anything like that, but when week after week I see serious concerns with how we played, then I'm going to call out what I see.
