NFL Salary Cap Increase

We are one dominate OT away from being a totally different team on offense. I agree sign the fug out of him.

And while your at it draft an OT in the 2nd or 3rd round to groom to replace Remmers. I don't think there are any OT talent that's worth a high first round pick this draft.

This discussion comes aroumd every year and the net result is that contracts generally inflate in accordance, especially FA contracts chasing shallow pools of players (Anthony Collins, Torrey Smith at 8MM a year, etc.). That said, it could be advantageous for Carolina since they could front-load contracts for their own talent and avoid some cap trouble down the road.

OT, WR, TE2, FB, RB2

We are not 1 position away from either side of the ball.

Sign Norwell, Sign Short, Sign Star

49ers will cut Joe Staley won't they ? Sign him

Norwell will be tendered. Short will be allowed to walk. Star is already sealed on an 8M option year for 2017. Staley's agent will use Gettleman for leverage to get a better contract with another team.

We have been a dominant franchise OT away from a consistent offense since Gross left. Gettleman is not looking for a franchise LT. He likes projects at OT. Gettleman does not groom players. He lets key players go and throws inexperience to the wolves.

The Panthers also need another sure handed receiver for 3rd down. That has been a major void this year.

When everyone we need to sign is inked up on favorable contracts going forward, and we still have a ton of cap space to make some key FA acquisitions for the first time, maybe Gettleman will finally get credit for the hole he dug us out of.

You fail to realize Gettleman has had money to spend in 2014, 2015, and 2016. He does not spend money. He saves it to possibly sign current players at a discount price. The players want top dollar and Gettleman refuses to pay them. So, Gettleman does not spend the money, let's the key players walk, and saves it for the next off season to repeat the process.

Gettleman will not pay for an impact players. He will use it to over pay mediocre talent. I could see him going on a spending spree by loading up on 10 Soliai type players for 3 to 4M per season.

Olsen, Kalil, Cam, Luke, these are "impact" players that Gettleman has signed.

Oh but let's keep on the narrative that "Gettleman sucks because he didn't spend a lot of money."

Gee, wonder why. Can't be the fact we barely had any cap to begin with.

Gettleman has proven time and time again that he is cheap. Even in the winning seasons he hasnt spent any money. Why does everyone think he will go crazy this offseason?

Because he actually has money now he could spend, unlike the prior years reeking with Hurney contracts?

    • When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays
    • 9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
    • So much revisionist history around the pre-draft Bryce hype. The media was practically united in saying that if he were a couple inches taller he'd be the perfect prospect and it was just a question of whether he'd hold up in the NFL being that small. The Panthers did not create the mythos around him they were just the team that bought in. The team was largely praised for the move after and for surrounding him with what was considered an all-star coaching staff at the time.  Yeah part of the fanbase wanted Stroud but let's be real, we're coming from an oversized franchise QB who injured himself out the league. There was some analysis here on the limitations of Bryce's game but people were mostly just concerned he was going to turn into dust when he got sacked in the NFL.
