Interesting. Thanks for chiming in with this. I guess it would depend on ability to play ST (which I don't think LJ has) and if he can move outside temporarily. Captain can do that not sure if LJ can. But if you think about having Captain as our nickel and LJ backing him up there, with Captain's ability to move outside and LJ able to replace him at nickel if that happens I don't think it would be bad to have two nickels like that on the roster. Not sure if RR would do that though. With this though it seems more likely we target a reunion with Captain.

I don't know enough to know why they're not high on him, but yeah what you're saying makes sense to me. I think LJ is better than our current backups on the outside (just overall skill-wise) and he's definitely better than Sanchez in the slot. Keeping him on the roster seems like it would improve the overall talent at the CB position and then they would have to figure out the lineups and how to move them around (assuming Cap comes back).

Edit: But I think there is some validity in their interest in Cap based on their current solutions at slot/Nickel.

He would be brought in to play Nickel here I would imagine. I'm not an expert on D formations, but I'm pretty sure the Panthers play a good bit of Nickel.

They did under McDermott.

Will they continue to do so under Wilks? Unknown.

Leonard Johnson brought a spark to be sure, but the real reason they may not be high on him is this:

"According to Pro Football Focus, nickel back Leonard Johnson missed 11 tackles in 10 games. Zack Sanchez – who like Worley and Bradberry was drafted in 2016 – was absolutely not ready to be on the field."

Can't have that.

Can't imagine it'll change much at all under Wilks. Of course we'd love to get Shaq on the field more but when so many teams run base 3 wide sets you can't really have 3 LBs on the field, no matter how good they are in coverage. You're not putting a LB on a shifty slot WR and expecting good things to happen.
