Casserly says Carolina takes...

The Wisdom of Charlie Casserly:

Quote

"If I'm a team that needs a quarterback, you have to put (Kolb) on your draft board and say, 'Would I rather have Kevin Kolb or Cam Newton?'" Casserly said. "Well you know what? I'd take Kevin Kolb over Cam Newton 100 times out of 100 chances. First of all, I've seen the guy play in the league, that's number one. Number two, he can run an NFL offense, he's proven that. I don't know if Cam Newton can run an NFL offense. So if I'm a top 10 pick, and certainly in the first 12-to-15 picks, there are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks. Kevin Kolb could start for a lot of those teams and help them. So, Kevin Kolb, you have to say to yourself, do I want to have a Cam Newton, a Ryan Mallett? Do I want to have a Jake Locker? Or do I want to have a Kevin Kolb? I'd rather have Kevin Kolb."

Former NFL GM Charley Casserly was more tempered, classifying Newton with former first-rounders Vince Young and The Golden Calf of Bristol, players Casserly feels were drafted too highly.  "I wouldn't take this guy in the first round," said Casserly.

In analyzing how Winston ranks among some former top prospects coming out of college, NFL Media analyst Charley Casserly shared his insight about where (Jameis) Winston fits in.

"I think he’s better than RG3, better than Cam Newton, better than Blake Bortles. I do not think he’s as good as Matt Stafford or Sam Bradford, who were also picked first."

The man has grown and matured. Of course I say this now and he kills someone when playing for the Saints. But as much as we all wish, you know damn well we are going to take the DE from Stanford. AT THE SAME TIME, the combine has to finish b/c all these mocks don't mean poo. You know damn well Watson is going to fall.

Apparently he has multiple children with multiple women (not really a smart idea), hangs out with legit thugs and gets drunk pretty often, and was accused of hitting a woman once but that could've been false because everything was dropped. That is just stuff I've heard.

Great. We can sign Desean Jackson like we all wanted and we can have a real shootout on offense.

as a player Cook fits the Panthers perfectly, as a person and a citizen not so much.  I would be happy with him but i can see why people wouldn't be. he is one poor decision away from being a PR nightmare

I won't speculate about off-the-field concerns, but I'm curious what makes him a perfect fit for our offense? Haven't gotten the chance to watch any of his games and it seems like most think Fournette would be the better fit.
