Restart: WR Kelvin Benjamin's Sophomore Season Was A Dud - Why He'll Be Back As A WR1 This Year

great write up @Saca312

another reason I feel KB will have a breakout season is he's in a contract year. The Panthers do have the 5th year option so technically he's locked up till 2018, but if I were DG, I'd get a long term deal done with him soon.

My biggest fear is KB puts up a 1500 yard, 15TD season and then demands the world.

Im still a huge KB believer. He's still going to be a true #1, watch the doubters forget all their crazy "trade him for 5th derp derp, hes trash herp derp, cut his lazy ass derp". I'll be able to spam my favorite KB pic when this starts happening too!!

Honestly man fug them. Anyone who says that and actually means it might want to learn more about football before opening their mouths.

And to the op, great write up. And on top of all that KB had an extremely low drop rate. So that area of his game did improve

@Saca312, better be careful.  You might get a job opportunity from some where!  Good stuff!

As far as KB's future, should he blow it up, that will happen when it happens.  Part of that is going to depend on how the FA WR's workout this year.  KB wants to be a Panther, but at the same time, he will want to get paid like he deserves.  But that's later, no need to worry about that right now.

I really hope KB is able to pull it together.  We need our #1 back.  We need to be able to score TDs, and he has the ability to do that in spades.  We need teams to roll coverage to him, opening things up for Olsen and Funchess (or whoever overtakes him as the #2).

I hope he's able to come back in full force!

I won't quote it because it takes up too much space.

This is a positive for us.  The sky is falling and our WR are the worst in the NFL gets old.

This all makes sense and our front office is keenly aware of it.

Outstanding write up and look forward to reading more.

This is why I have stayed away from here for so long. There are too many people here who seem to think it's their duty to put down anybody who dares to show any optimism about this team or the GM. fug that.

If he does that, then he'll deserve to get paid.

I am with @*FreeFua*, anyone who didn't enter in their calculations that there was a good possibility that KB wouldn't be a hundred before the season started just doesn't listen. They are probably some of the same suggesting that he sucks, calling for a trade, or whatever. More than a few people, including here, said that KB may not be fully recovered until 2017. That's just how some ACL injuries go. Between the physical injury, the mental battle of trusting your body, and just general physical conditioning, it takes a while for most athletes to get back to 100 percent.

Hopefully his knee doesn't betray him anymore and he'll be ready to do his thing.

Not worried about KB, worried that we have two wr with very similar skill sets, we've need speed for a couple seasons now an I'm hoping its addressed. Although cam should work on fine tuning the weak parts of his game, we haven't done a great job of surrounding him with players that maximizes his current strengths

I realize he has some things to work on on the focus and effort category but the entire offense was a dud. There wasn't much opportunity to improve on numerically with out having protection and sustaining drives.

To me, Cam is the number 1 guy who needs to improve. Yeah, I know the line wasn't that good but Tom Brady has played behind some below average lines too and he still found a way to win ball games. If Cam and KB can get back to form, this team can be right back in it, regardless of who the OC is.

Now I stand back and take the abuse for daring to say that Cam is not perfect...

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
