Yes, it is. The NFL is a business at the end of the day. This move was all business for the continued development of Cam.

this topic is about a retirement for the Carolina fanbase.

Carolina gonna write 89 a check? If not, it ain't about business.  It is about something else.

Dave does have a history IMO of handling some personnel issues poorly.  I don't think it is would be petty to simply not want to deal with someone anymore after a bad parting.  89 ain't talking trash right now.  He is just politely saying he isn't thinking about such things.  We know why.  Seems like 89 is adulting at the moment.

how exactly has he handled them poorly? these are standard player releases. it's not dave's fault that marty hurney spoiled them with lavish contract extensions. it's not so abnormal when you take yourself out of the context of "the former GM's short list of untouchable players that he promised would play out their entire career in carolina, declining performance or misconduct notwithstanding".

I just hope Smith understands he is loved and adored as the greatest Panther to lace them up by our fans and that should hopefully be enough on its own to retire a Panther.

He needs to unretire and a sign a 1 year deal here first though.

89 got fired from his job.  All accounts are it wasn't handled as professionally as it should of been on Carolina's end given what he put in.

so...what do you want from him?

I mean, overall in the Panther fandom world people just want him to come running back and give the fans what they want. Do that and it means he is an adult.  To me, that doesn't sound like him being adult but more simply fans getting what fans want.

Maybe retiring a Panther simply isn't a big deal to him.  That can be true.  Heck, did Jake Delhomme ever officially retire a Panther? I don't know.

I don't want anything from him. I just want consistency from his fans.

If you're going to reference Gettleman's history and how he handled Smitty's situation, then Smitty's history and how he handled the Gettleman situation must also be looked at in an equally fair light.

He doesn't have to come back to be an adult. He could stop pretending he doesn't know the date and time of an arranged appearance in an attempt to emphasize how apathetic he is to the idea of doing so though. To me, that doesn't sound like him being an adult but more simply Smitty being (salty) Smitty.

That's a fans prospective. Dave is here to win not coddle players. You get paid to perform and Smith was ok just taking money and doing nothing.

*shrugs* I ain't mad at him.

This is how everyone should be. I'm not mad at him or at Dave. They had a falling out. He'll come back once Dave is gone, no biggie. Dave is 350 pounds. He won't be here forever haha

Regardless of the beef he has with gman, it needs to be done. It needs to be mandated from the big cat and that's all there is to it. He also needs to be honored before our home crowd and let the majority of the panther fans give him the welcome back that most want to.
