don't quite agree. I have 6'4 friends who are the biggest puppy dogs you'll ever meet, and then 5'5 asian friends who'll throw down no matter what the circumstances and who they're up against, and 9 times out of 10, they'll come out victorious simply b/c they have no fear.

I'm not saying Cam is a puss, but I'd honestly put my money on Steve if they ever got into a brawl.

It's not the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog.

I don't think Steve is as tough as people think.  Going up for a ball or running across the middle, absolutely tough.  But in a fight? Not so much.  Look at all the fights we know of that he has had with teammates.  In each case he sucker punched the teammate.  None of them were fair fights where the other guy was ready or was even in a position to defend themselves.

And while I wasn't at the practice where Smitty sucker punched Ken Lucas, I was told by someone who was there and close to the situation that while Steve did punch Lucas when he wasn't ready, by the time others got there to break it up, Lucas already had Steve on the ground and would have likely kicked his ass if he wasn't pulled off him.  I think Smitty hits first and tries to intimidate others so they won't realize he really can't back up his bark.

true. and he had a smile on his face doing it lol.

again, I'm not saying Cam wouldn't stand a chance, it's just Smitty is one crazy ass mo fo and I think simply looking into his eyes and seeing the anger and rage would be intimidating for anyone, including cam.

I've seen fights won through intimidation alone, even when the punches being thrown weren't causing much damage to the opponent.

We all have. All I'm saying is that if there's two relatively unskilled fighters and both are similar athletes and both have a mentality of not backing down, my money will be on the far bigger guy every single time.

fair enough. I still think smitty has cam in the "mentality of not backing down" department, but given your scenario of everything else being equal except for size, of course I'd take Cam as well.

I agree. Smith has a lore of being a mighty mouse. But Cam Newton would absolutely murder Steve Smith if he really wanted to.

If Smith hit him he either took it like a man and laughed in his face or it got broken up shortly after.

Steve Smith would not beat Cam Newton in a fight. I say that as one of Smiths biggest fans. I think he is one of the greatest all time in his skillset. But just because he was a badass diva doesn't mean guys like Beason or Cam wouldn't wreck him if they wanted to match his attitude.

I find this hard to believe just be how the players reacted. Steve smith and cam seem cool still to this day,and Steve when he talked about the story he said cam didn't even know about it like he didn't blame cam. Also that sound bit from stage talking ish to gettleman saying"you don't think I can play anymore? Wait til week 4 " like it was all about gettleman and vengeance for him thinking he was on the downside of his career. But that's just me reading the facts we do know.

Steve is one of those people that can take anything and flip it into someone talking poo about him to motivate himself. It's the reason he was such a monster at receiver. And he and cam can fight and still be friends later on. poo happens in those locker rooms that they get over. But if he truly hit cam, I don't blame Gettleman for letting him go because of his repeated history of hitting players (which is also a fact we do know)

I've said for years I love Smitty on the field, he's my favorite player  but I wouldn't eat dinner with the guy. He is an asshole. This story certainly sounds believable. It's his own fault that it does.

Still last off-season alone was enough to fire Getttlemen imo. The Norman debacle followed by 3 cb draft picks. Lol what a obvious fug up. I think he made more decisions on emotions than others around here. It's just the emotions fell in the negative category.

I couldn't even get to the meat of the story because of all this cheesy ass mystery thriller narration. the cigar smoke plumed from my cigar as i meandered through the logistics of this conundrum. Steve Smith you say? He scoffed with an air of dismissive petulance.

    • He didn't actually make the playoffs. We had several opportunities to clinch on our own and crapped the bed. We had to wait for Atlanta to win to get us in. We had the tie breaker in a poo division that had 3 teams finish 8-9.  If you go back and look at the games we played, we weren't a dominant offensive team under him as an OC. We beat the Jets 13-7 and barely beat the packers after they failed to convert multiple red zone trips. We relied heavily on converting 4th downs. DC was also extremely slow at recognizing trends in game and was really lacking with clock management.  Was there progress this year? Yes. But most of it was on the defensive side of the ball. Our offense was stagnant with a couple of exceptions. Any improvement from Bryce was minimal and he kept insisting on XL over Coker, and even RB distribution instead of going with the hot hand.  He may be building something, but I don't think we've seen enough to know what that is. It could go either direction. If he insists on being OC, then without a noticeable improvement, yes he needs to be on the hot seat like any OC would. The more jobs you take on the more you have to be judged on. I think he would have a longer leash if he hired a true OC and just focused in being HC.
    • zero percent suprised Luke is a nice guy irl, have never heard anything differently from anyone that's met him.  I have heard mixed reports on Smitty I know one guy on here got to know Deangelo Williams and J stew pretty well back in the day when they used to host events and he said they were nice iirc  I can't imagine Jordan gross is a bad hang, he's hilarious
    • Ran across this bit of fun. As seen on https://www.thesportinggent.com/blogs/dispatches/front-porch-musings-field-ethos-journal (a blog for outdoors gear and clothing)
