Was it stupid to promote Matsko to "running game coordinator?"

He went from a revered offensive line coach to a running game coordinator in 2016, which is likely less hands on and more scheme-based. His replacement is Ray Brown, who was Matsko's assistant for a few years.

Since 2016 we've been awful on the line. Any correlation to positional coaching?

Interesting thought. I'm really not sure how his duties changed but if he did go from hands on OL coaching to more scheme based then I think it may have had an impact. I like Rivera but god damn I don't like how he's run his coaching staff on offense and ST. Defense is spot on, but the rest I just can't get behind with Rivera.

Since 16 our right tackles has been Remmers and Williams (who couldn't beat out Remmers) and left an out of position Remmers and a never lived up the potential Kalil.

I find it hard to blame the coaches for this one

Overreacting here, who would think that QB coming off shoulder surgery and losing an All Pro TE wouldn't hinder the offense.

Play calling  wasn't the issue it was more of Cam's accuracy & the inability to audible out of deep routes knowing the overload blitz was coming.

Cam's decision making needs to improve especially with the loss of Olsen he needs to be more in command.

I think not having Ryan Kalil out there yesterday had more to do with it, but you might have a good point. Kalil runs that unit when he's on the field and they floundered without him directing the pickups and protections. And Buffalo just kept attacking Larsen and crushing the center of the line. He's a good back up but they put a target on him.

Not having Kalil hurt obviously, there were times the OL looked lost when the Bills brought an extra guy.

However, there were many plays that the Bills just rushed 4 and Kalil or Williams would just straight up lose their 1v1 matchup... badly.

It really was like watching the Super Bowl all over again but with Remmers playing both LT and RT

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
