The Reason Last Night's Loss Lingers More Than Usual

It's because, just like so many of our losses under this staff, it was winnable.  VERY winnable.  And it feels like we lost to a lesser team - because we did.  

The difference between our team and theirs is that we were outcoached, first and foremost.  I take nothing away from Philly.  They are a good, quality, most likely division-winning playoff team.  But, we are more talented where it matters...  difference is, we were outcoached, and thus outexecuted.  They put their players in positions to succeed, whereas our staff repeatedly put ours in positions to fail, and it is beyond frustrating.

I agree totally. The blame for this loss falls squarely on Rivera, Shula and Wilks shoulders.

Welcome to the dark side.  I've being saying this for a while now but get.. but but we won.   We win in spite of the coaching, not because of our coaching.  There's a yuge difference.

It lingers because our best player's career is in jeopardy. I could care less about the loss at this point.

We got outplayed and got manhandled on the offensive line and still had multiple chances to win without our defensive quarterback for the 2nd half.

Coaching is partly to blame, but for the first time in a while I can see where the coaches are coming from when they preach execution. Some players ran some lazy routes, or didnt fight enough for yards when they caught the ball. Multiple drops. Some terrible safety and linebacker reads. On the Nelson Agholor TD, Byrd decided to triple cover someone instead of help Shaq. Trai Turner got destroyed by Cox most of the night. Cam played well most of the night but missed a few wide open players again.

Its crazy how much you see when you have seats a couple rows from the field. I wish I could go to every game.

Yeah, but go down the list and tell me which of their units is better than ours.  DL is the only one I might give you.

Our players are misused.  They arent put in a position to execute and succeed.  And if execution is a problem, another thing that also needs to be looked at is the personnel being used, and the personnel available.  We're always late making adjustments when they're needed.

the players did the best they could with what they were directed to do.

Last night just plain hurt.

As someone else said, it was one of the most poorly coached games I've ever seen.

We played like poo and still had a chance to win thanks to Cam Newton leaving it all out on the field. If the oline could block and Stewart could catch we would have won 24-14. If Shula had even half a brain we would have put up 40+.

This loss really showed just how bad our coaching is.

There is plenty of blame to go around but there was nothing outside of Luke’s injury that couldn’t be fixed. I honestly chalk this one up more so to the short week then anything else.

everyone on here is super butt hurt after losses. But the huddle is gonna huddle, we have two very winnable games the next two weeks and a little bit of rest to go with it before we play our next tough opponent.

we just went 2-1 playing two games on the road against the reigning Super bowl champ, the team that was leading the NFCN at the time(and would still be and have been undefeated at the time we played them if not for a blown call by the refs in their game against Atlanta) and the best team from the NFCE on a short week. I honestly think we played great over the last 3 weeks.

I have been sticking up for the coaching staff for quite some time. And even I have to admit there was some timid play calling that cost us the game, but there were also turnovers, bad tackling and injuries that were not because of coaching.

Why we didn't go for the TD when we were inside their five-yard line and chose to go with a chip shot field goal instead, I have no idea. It might have mathematically been the right thing to do, but it was lousy football that just said they would let the Eagles dictate how the game would be played on Carolina's own field. Had the try failed, we would have still had them backed up against their own goal line. Secondly, what gives with not giving Gano a shot at the loooong field goal before the half? That made no sense. Let's not even get into the play calls on that last drive.

Now that that's out of the way... You aren't going to win many games giving up three interceptions. Period. That's mostly on Cam, partly on Stewart and partly on the offensive line. Before you start crying about the O-line pass blocking, Wentz had a much worse night behind his line and he managed to function.

But on the matter of the O-line... I have never seen one get so completely screwed up in run blocking. Fundamentals were completely abandoned by that unit -- both the individual players and Matsko should be refunding their game checks because they just didn't show up. Stewart might be an old warhorse, but he never got a chance to build up even the slightest head of steam. CMC didn't do much better, CAP was out there for some reason once -- maybe twice, and let's hope Fozzy gets better soon.

On defense, you can't blame the coaches for Luke's injury. We had some of the most successful blitzing we've seen in a long time and we've now seen where Thompson should be used on passing downs and it's not in coverage. Without Luke, though, it was a flailing monster without a head -- dangerous but undirected. And someone, please, step up for Colin Jones, he's just not cutting it.

I think I've largely become numb to watching Rivera and crew get taken to school. It's just expected at this point

The 3 called long bombs when all we had to do was get first downs and milk the clock was just so mind numbing.

So getting hit while throwing the ball, tipping a ball into the air that's right in your hands, and a receiver running a route to the same area as another receiver instead of the middle of the field where he should have been... is mostly on Cam?
