Why did the offense look better on a shorter week than a longer week?

I believe whatever it is can help move forward. Same amount of turnovers if I remember correctly against a better team and we pressed too much at the end with more than enough time. We never was close against the Bears

I think sometimes the offense just does too much and hurt themselves. I think they simplified it a little more for a shorter week.

RR has notoriously been a disaster after the bye week sans 2015, too much time twiddling his thumbs. It's essentially what happened here.

If this holds true we can go ahead and look forward to an L with Jets after the official bye.

Bears have a better overall defense.

Eagles don't have a great defense.  Eagles have a good front and play the run well.  People have passed on them all season.  Bears play better overall D.  Bears top 10 vs the pass and Eagles are near dead last.

Panthers will struggle all season vs complete and well rounded defenses.  Is what it is.   Good defenses can all play the same looks vs us.  Tape is out there we can't bust those looks with our talent consistently.

Luckily, the Bucs suck.  Should be able to score high 20s to low 30s on them.  If they can't, I will finally panic that we are done.

I think it has little to do with the amount of time to prepare and more to do with Shula being sporadic with playcalls. I harp on it almost daily these days, but it truly is the issue.

Why not do something crazy?

-CMC
-Samuel
-Funch
-KB

I've yet to see the above be used in a game. Between the speed and size here, you're forcing nickel or dime coverage. Which automatically opens the run game up based on sheer numbers. If they don't shift to account for this and keep both safeties inside? Somebody is open somewhere, it's just a matter of having the right guys running the right routes.

Shula is just bad. Beginning and end of story.

yea seriously . We've all watched Shula fail so many times in playvalling and lack of creativity and it's so frustrating .

We see how fast and great CMC is at receiving , I mean since the run game was struggling so much lately then I don't see why not give him serious time out wide and use him and samuel speed. The coaches are so entrenched with Funchess and Benji on the outside most of the time its making it easy for other teams to sell out on the run .

I at least give Shula credit for starting last game with cmc and samuel in the backfield and they seemed to make a concerted effort to give mccaffrey more carries

It's really unfortunate Samuel had that drop to a defensive td , but they still need tothrow more passes his way to get his confidence up and establish him as a deep threat . Samuel is only getting less than 5 touches a game and there's really no excuse for that since he's our only burner , maybe besides clay if they actually give him decent play time .

In short , playcalling  sucks but we are seriously missing the speed wr factor that opens up the run game and rest of the offense..

    • Best birthday present ever!
    • People were discussing the new backup QB in comparison the the starter.  Neither has anything close to a cannon.  Video was posted of them throwing.  If people can’t be free to express their opinions without being put on a list of posters who have ruined this place we have a bad situation here. People trying to silence  criticism of the QB.    Maybe actually post about the other players instead of about the other posters. That is where it went off the rails.
    • That's true and we're definitely going to hear more about it as summer progresses. But at the end of the day all of the progress we've made on the roster as a whole will only matter if our passing offense can emerge from the basement of the NFL. In 2023 it was 32 out of 32 in 2024 it was 30th out of 32 and last year it was 26th out of 32. And early in the season we relied heavily on a career year from Rico Dowdle who is no longer on the roster. This is only reinforced by the fact that we (depending on how one views it) effectively took playcalling out of Dave Canales hands and brought in another offensive mind. The elephant in the room isn't going anywhere no matter how much we may not like it.
