David Newton says we are following the Eagles' model

Recommended Posts

I didn't see this posted anywhere....and maybe for good reason.

http://www.espn.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/29487/panthers-using-formula-that-helped-eagles-win-the-super-bowl-with-receiver-overhaul

"So, general manager Marty Hurney began the overhaul with a formula eerily familiar to Philadelphia's."

This guy. Says by gettin rid of Benjamin and bringing in an older version of Smith and Jarius Wright, we are doing exactly what Philly did when they brought in a younger version of Smith and gave Alshon a $50 million contract.

I don't know about you guys, I didn't get the OMG-WE-SIGNED-ALSHON! vibe from these signings. It feels a little bit closer to when we signed Domenik Hixon.

lol, no...

We are using the same formula that we used in 2015.  Don't overpay for #1s when you can get a bunch of dudes who do one or two things well and use them creatively to maximize their strengths.

Cleaned that up a little.  :)

Yeah, I think the PHI plug is for headlines over anything related to what they're actually doing.

When you compare:

Ginn/Funch/Cotchery/Brown

to

Funch / Smith / Wright / Samuel & Byrd

I think you begin to see the team getting back to what worked best for Cam, the notion he needs all these big bodies due to ''inaccuracy'' was over-exaggerated, Cam's best with receivers that create space vertically, and horizontally, he's a ''sight'' thrower and that's not to say he lacks anticipation; however he's been at his best when his receivers have the threat of speed and can separate.

    • I wouldn't mind a deal that would add Rust or Rakell from the Pens. Move Jarvy to 2C, send KK and a prospect to Pittsbhrgh. Pittsburgh is taking calls for both. And both of them have played very well against Carolina.
    • I liked James on a personal level. I still do. But he had his flaws too and what's done is done. Charles Lee will get this season to showcase what he's building. If he and the team look like poo he should be on a very hot seat. But I don’t expect that to happen. I could be wrong. But I'd rather not be in this instance. Regardless. At some point we're going to be lucky to hire anyone worth a damn if we keep firing coaches. It's not something any of us should want to see because it's only going to mean yet another reset. Best case scenario is Lee with this infusion of youth establishes a refreshing culture change. We'll see.
    • This is preseason fluff, I know he has Buffalo 28 and they might not be are studded but they will perform over expected which can easily happen to the panthers. This is the “name game/franchise name”. I would put us against Green Bay in terms of talent but Green Bay is gonna get the benefit of the doubt
