Carolina Panthers select Donte Jackson - CB - LSU

Jackson has translated his exceptional speed into a successful collegiate career in track and football. He won state high school titles in the 100 and 200 meters, and joined the Tigers' track squad to race in the 60 and 100-meters and win conference titles in the 4x100 relay. Jackson's play on the football field is what really intrigues scouts. He played in all 12 games, starting once, as a true freshman (26 tackles, one interception, two pass breakups). Jackson started 11 of 12 games in 2016, intercepting two passes, breaking up six others, and being credited with 39 tackles. SEC coaches voted him second-team all-conference in 2017, as he started 12 of 13 games played, posting 49 stops, 3.5 for loss, an interception, and 10 pass breakups.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
