The Draft Will Not Fix Carolinas Biggest Issue

I wouldn’t say this is the biggest issue in Carolina, matter of fact I still think LT, LG, and FS are bigger than this. Then you also have a creeper for an owner, the franchise is for sale, Ā a new oc that very few have worked with on the roster, more expensive tickets, cheerleaders that are underpaid, and a pro bowl LB that will miss the first four games.

Ā

Ā

there are bigger issues than ball security..... also, with j stew gone I think they that gives 4 fumbles back?

I agree, but not on ball security.Ā  We take care of the ball pretty well, and especially after cam fully recovered from the shoulder surgery, he was good.Ā  Problem last year was generating turnovers.Ā  That's why I was disappointed with Jackson and Gaulden, because neither are really "ball hawks".

Execution.Ā

The team never came close to putting a full game together.Ā

Not sure how any draft can fix that. That's more about accountability.Ā

Listening to Rivera talk about competition, I can tell he wants better execution from the team.Ā

Based on what you are pointing out, TAKEAWAYS was the significant factor, not giveaways.

Ā

Only 3 more giveaways in 2017 than 2015.Ā  Those can easily be attributed to luck of a fumble or dropped interception.Ā  It's still in the top 30% in the league.

The biggest difference was takeaways BY FAR.Ā  18 less takeaways in 2017.

Correct. This draft will not fix Carolina's biggest weaknesses, which are, no ownership, Marty Hurney, underqualified people running the organization, not assistant GM and a front office that has been put together with sticks and bandaids, and Ron Rivera having a major say in personnel decisions. This team could have drafted saquon, Nelson, Chubb, roquan, and dj Moore this weekend and it would have been a moot point.

This franchise is in turmoil and has zero shot until the trash, starting with the pathetic excuse of a human being, Jerry Richardson, is removed from this organization. It kills me inside, but I think we are for some dark times coming up the next few seasons.

Sadly this is very possible. Cam has to play out of his mind to keep us relevant.Ā

The main issue with Carolina is ball security.Ā  This cannot be drafted.Ā  This is fundamentals that need to be taught.Ā  You know, coaching.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams andĀ our divisional opponents.Ā I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we canĀ spring a further surprise.Ā  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can ā€œforceā€ a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?Ā  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams ā€œdraft meā€. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.Ā
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
