The Supreme Court struck down a federal law prohibiting sports gambling Monday, giving the states a go-ahead to allow betting on sports.

In 2012, the NCAA and four major professional sports leagues sued New Jersey governor Chris Christie after he signed legislation allowing sports betting in the state. That law directly flew in the face of the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which makes it unlawful for a state to "sponsor, operate, advertise, promote, license, or authorize by law" sports wagering.

A handful of states that already had forms of sports betting when PASPA was implemented were grandfathered in, with only Nevada allowed to offer a full menu, including single-game wagering.

New Jersey lost every step of the way, and the Supreme Court initially declined to take the case in June 2014. The state didn't give up, though, and passed another law that attempted to comply with PASPA.

The case made its way through the court system again before the Supreme Court took the case and heard oral arguments last December. Twenty states signed on in support of New Jersey in the case.

The thing is if the government takes a cut of winnings and can legally tax it, then this will certainly help the economy. no different than lottery. I wonder if states will open bookie stores or if sports bars will just have a setup.

I'm all for it and legalization of weed nation wide.  Get this country out of debt.  I think they should tax the sports book at a much higher rate than the people who occasionally make money betting.  It definitely flows 1 way.

    • TBQH, Jackson is performing almost as well as Horn in terms of coverage. So, although the scheme we run doesn't always allow Horn to be at his best, it does make things easier on others and it has proven to be pretty effective in coverage more often than not. His defense overall is designed to stress the QB's decision making.  The biggest complication has been one of the worst front 7 units in the NFL and at times, in the history of our franchise. But, Evero also deserves a pretty healthy chunk of the blame for that because several of these bums have been publicly stated to be "Evero guys."  The front seven has to produce a lot of pressure itself and has to be very disciplined in run support. Those are two areas that have generally been quite bad.  It's not really the scheme. It's the fact that we have so many bums on that side of the ball and/or play guys in positions we have no business playing them. Again, Evero does get some blame for a chunk of that.
    • There are probably dozens of folks on here that were saying that pre draft, I mean there are receipts,  if you want to get into it go for it but you know there were a ton of folks that were screaming his college production was all a sham.  Being the "truth" at alabama doesnt really mean jack fuging poo in the nfl.  And the proof is in the pudding as they say. But this poverty ass franchise seems to be content to roll with this shitty midget for 2 more years
    • I agree he's way too inconsistent right now. I even said he isn't a franchise QB because of it. This whole back and forth is because someone said they could tell Bryce wasn't gonna be a good pro based on how he played in college. And that ain't true. This whole arm issue, not throwing deep and too small to pass over the middle was not an issue in college. Dude was the truth. Obviously all great college players don't become great pros. But in my opinion that's usually either a guy that doesn't have a good work ethic, does dumb stuff outside of football or goes to the wrong team.
