Ron Rivera envisions 200 carries for Christian McCaffrey

Panthers coach Ron Rivera told ESPN.com he wouldn’t be surprised if McCaffrey reached 200 carries this season. That matches what Rivera said in June, when he said he’s looking forward to seeing McCaffrey run between the tackles more, as he did in college.

McCaffrey is looking bigger and stronger (and sexier) this offseason, which might help him carry a bigger load. Although C.J. Anderson has arrived and will take over some of the running workload, McCaffrey is likely to be the starting running back.

I'm all for it, more touches will only help, plus this guys pass catching ability makes him such a versatile threat. Also, CMC has bulked up and added 5 to 10 pounds of muscle to his frame which should help him fight off tackles even better.

Running between the tackles is fine but there has a got to be holes to run through. Our run blocking has got to be better in order for Christian to be effective as he's not a guy thats going to break a lot of tackles.

If the game slows down for him in year 2 like it did for Bell, then his vision and patience will take over and he won’t need to break tackles like Marshawn Lynch...

I don’t care as long as the best player gets the touches. And I just think that will be McC even between the tackles. He was a top 10 pick for a reason and not because he can catch screen passes and dump offs and run routes from the slot... He showed vision, patience and agility between the tackles in college like no player except for LeVeon Bell... I want to see that translate to the pros this year and think it will.

  People really need to stop comparing CMC to Le’veon Bell. In what possible way should there be a comparison to a RB who Was 242 lbs coming out of college and transformed his body by losing 25 lbs. and is still 15-20 lbs heavier than CMC?

Your math skills suck. But I think the comparison lies in their style. They're both patient -wait for the hole- hesitation style runners.

Well, now that we don't have Shula and his playbook for dummies, hopefully we don't run the ball every first down and second down and don't see 8 in the box 95% of the time.

      if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying

      So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
