I would have took a hard pass for that amount. I'd rather use the Steeler method of dealing with Wr's. Constant draft receivers every year and sign them before their price is to high, and if the want to much let them move on.

They did that with everyone but AB. Some guys you don't let walk. Yeah it's an overpay but it is what it is, the giants best case scenario is having a cheap qb while Odells getting paid. That's the only thing that'll offset his money

That'll help keep the Giants out of contension for a few years. No need paying that kind of money to a WR when your QB is in rapid decline.

Setting up to make sure Eli's replacement already has pieces in place. Same thing the saints will have to do post Brees and when Michael Thomas wants to cash out.

This was strategic. They know Eli will play the next year or two and then they will have 4+years on a cheap rookie contract when they draft his replacement

BINGO but some feel like it's still a waste if that future qb can't get him the ball.

But when you ask for two 1st round picks for a player like the giants did you're not really trying to trade him. So then it's a matter of time before he gets paid.

Odell just signed his Mega deal with the Giants.

5 years 95 Million with 67 guaranteed.

And we can write off the Giants for the next half decade or more. Teams that overspend on a WR typically get one good burst year, then the drain on their cap space kills them.

Megatron, Dez Bryant, etc... great, great, great receivers with huge price tags. The returns diminish faster than the contracts do.

And in the Giant's case, they are locking up a huge part of their cap space while they have glaring needs along both lines and a need for the next franchise QB.

A world-class WR is the new white elephant of the NFL: it looks like a blessing and an honor, until you realize you are spending all your time and money trying to keep it up.
