What cost us

lightsout

Recommended Posts

This is just from what I can recall. Feel free to add to it.

- Turnovers. Obviously can't have them. DJ fumbling twice absolutely set us back, and Cam's arm being hit resulted in an INT. Can't control the latter as much as the former, but if just one of those fumbles doesn't happen this game is a win.

- Piss poor game management. About 1:30 before half, ball inside your 10. You're down and need at least three before the half OR you need to kill clock to ensure no more points for the opposing team. What do we do? Run twice and pass on 3rd and 8 when the Redskins used their last time out after the 2nd down play. Absolutely absurd.

- Defense daring yet another bad QB to beat us with underneath throws. And he did. Seriously, I don't care what coaches at any level say, if your defense is starting at the QB and not checking where the routes are in relation to their zone, you are counting on the QB making a bad throw. We constantly lose guys because we have 7 guys behind the DL watching the football and not defending his receivers.

- Not stopping the run. Got beat up front. Simple as that.

- Cam not looking to get the first on third down on the last drive. Poor recognition by Cam that close to the endzone with 2 time outs.

I believe that not going for it on 4th down, on our opening drive cost us the game. It let the players know that the coaching staff had no trust in them and the players lost all confidence in the coaching staff. I just hope that that one call by Ron Rivera does not cause the players to quit on Ron and cost us the season

BTW no offense is afraid of our defense

No defense is afraid of our offense. They play the run and even if they give up some TDs they know our passing game is too inconsistent to beat them. Regardless of if we win or not that's how teams play us...been easy to see for years.

What cost is Cam choking at the end with 3 bad passes in a row to end the game.

Cam doesnt choke, he was stellar that whole drive.  We should have gone for the first down instead of the endzone.  With 3 timeouts we could have ran it even

Eventually Eric Washington and Rivera need to realize that this front four is not capable of getting pressure to allow for zone coverage. We are going to have to start taking chances with brining five or six guys. QBs like brees, Ryan, Smith are going to dink and dunk this zone to death.

We have good enough corners to play some man and blitz.

Defense killed us. We can blame the fumbles or the lack of passing but when you allow Alex Smith to sit in the pocket and choose his man that's a total loss every time. We didn't make them punt but once and we didn't control the line. Total collapse.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
