About that Moore play...

Look at Olsen and Funch. As soon as Moore catches the ball and darts to the endzone they both sort of stand around and jog upfield while ALL the Lions defenders jet upfield to catch up to Moore. Even some of our oline men end up getting more ground than Funchess. Darius Slay ended up making the tackle and if Funch blocked him for even a second Moore would've took it the house and Gano doesn't miss that FG. Look at the rest of the offense on that play too. Olsen doesn't bother to block out, Wright tries to set up a block for second and then gets out of the way.  The lack of urgency from this team is concerning both on offense and defense. Between plays like this and all the arm tackles we're not making the most of our talent. I cant help but to chalk this up to a coaching issue. Most of this team acts like they could care less if they win or not and it all starts with the HC. What kind of coach gives their players off the whole weekend after losing big to Pittsburgh? I saw some poster bouncing around the excuse of missing a day due to rain but we had more prep time than Detroit. This should have been a big win for us. If we want to make a deep run this lazy poo has to end going forward.

This team just has no spirit this year, it really harkens back to the feeling that Rivera's message has gotten stale. Hell, even teams with half our wins seem to have more fire than us right now.

I mean Luke Kuechly is out there making some wimpy candy arse tackles too.  I mean, is this real life?

On this play, in all fairness, Funch was never in position to make a legal block.  Funch is certainly not any less culpable for his play in the game because of it.  He was terrible and deserves to polish the pine for it, but on this play, he couldn't have blocked his man without a flag.

I think what we learned on this play is that while DJ Moore has a lot of upside, he's not Agent 89.  Nobody catches 89 from behind.  Our burner is still Samuel.

Remind me again why we don't play Samuel?

This is what I’m saying. They’re just no longer buying in to what Rivera has to say.

I hate how players get caught up on watching themselves on the jumbo tron and peaking behind them. That could've had something to do with it.

In the end though, it it took a CB with elite speed to catch up to him and DJ is elusive and strong as fug, but hes not our fastest player. Keep in mind he's a WR whose about 215 and built more like a RB. DJ is NOT Curtis Samuel, OBJ, or Tyreek Hill.

I don't really fault him for that play too much. There was no excuse not to get in the end zone after it.

You do realize what he did to break open? It’s not like he ran a 9-route on that play

    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
    • I did, but again we're aware of the practice in college of inflating height/weight as well as what is considered normal and his freshman weight tells a lot. There was a recent Raw Room episode where at one point they were discussing putting on their "big boy weight" when they go to the pros. It's common for guys to have to slap on 20lbs over the summer, but King Dunlap mentioned having to put on 30 and how much of a toll that took on his body. That makes the idea of putting on 50 at the college level even harder to believe. I've got experience with cutting weight and that type of drop sounds just awful... and that's even if doing it healthy and not just turning yourself into a piece of human jerky. Having to add 50? Noooooo thank yoooou. I can understand wanting to take Scourton at face value, but we didn't take Bryce at face value either (and for good reason!). Give the recently posted videos a shot. I watched the one you linked even though I've already seen it, so why not extend the same courtesy? I think you'll find yourself getting more excited about his Purdue tape than you will being irritated by what you believe are false narratives being pushed. 😄
