We've lost SEVEN games by a touchdown or less

Second most in franchise history, I believe, trailing only this season's spiritual equal, the 2001 Panthers. Our last five losses were by a combined 20 points.

It is a crazy number... that's what makes me frustrated with some of the negative nancies...  I lived through 2001 and 2010... this is not it...

The pass rush needs upgrading, and Washington as DC was a bust

Cams shoulder and lack of deep ball.

Those are the only things I worry about for next year.

The difference between 11-5 and 5-11 is not big in the NFL...

Last year we overachieved... this year we underachieved.

Next year is next year... and as long as we get some pass rush and get Cam healthy we have a shot

It’s actually crazy when you think of how many seasons we’ve had where success or failure was determined by 7 points per game.

Thats what happens when you have a gutless, spineless, limp dick, braindead, stuck-in-the-80s coach...  your games are decided upon a razor's edge.  It's why his coaching is outdated...  a single score decides whether he is a good coach or a bad coach, and he can't win in consecutive seasons, so what does that tell you?  Are the wins the norm, or are the losses the aberration?  If almost all of your games are decided by a single score, and you're hovering around .500 for your career besides one season your team caught lightning in a bottle and played out of their minds, i'd say that's a good sign that you have very little influence over your team's outcomes...

Which means, you suck.

Pretty much. Ron's philosophy has a slim margin for error. We consistently try to do just enough to win. We'll take the foot off the gas when we're rolling and then ask the D to try to hang on. Then he blames player execution if it doesn't work out.

Eh, I miss when the close losses actually used to hurt.

I haven't emotionally cared about a loss since after the Lions game.  Everything since has been numbing.  Probably won't see another Panthers win until 2019... which is sad to think about.

this is a direct result of the style of play Rivera plays though.  If you grind the playclock and limit total possessions, you're bound to have closer game games because each team has fewer possessions.  That IMO makes Rivera's inability to consistently pull out those victories even worse because he's the one setting that stage.

The other issue with this is that you have a physically dominant QB who historically isn’t the most accurate, has the ability to take over a game other ways, but you’re forcing to be precise and have a small window for error. We continue to put Cam in situations where he has to save us, but not with his running. With his arm. Enter in the fact his arm is hurt, and the whole philosophy is asinine. Enter in the additional part where our HC is terrible at game/clock management and it’s one of the more ridiculous plans you can think of.

This is where the strategic part of being a coach isn’t there for Rivera. He is a ceteris paribus (“if all other things are the same”) coach, in a league where nothing stays the same. You have to recognize football is situational.

There are only 3 certainties - death, taxes, and Luke Kuechly ballin the eff out IF you don’t give him a crappy DC.... which Ron did too.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
