FA center that would immediately upgrade our line...

Ryan Kalil was very solid in his last season and played a large role in our O line run game success.

This offensive line was dominant in the run game: The Panthers were first in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt and fourth in total rushing yards — and that’s a stat that stands up to scrutiny. Christian McCaffrey was excellent in his first season as the Panthers’ lead back, but a team doesn’t average 5.1 yards per carry without great offensive line play.”

We all know how important center is for an offensive line and Larson in my opinion will be a downgrade from Kalil. I say we must go after Matt Paradis if he comes available. This can be our one big FA signing and allow us to focus on the defense in the draft. The guy is 29 years old and can perform at a high level for at least 5 years. He is one of the best in the league right now.

▪ “Matt Paradis, Denver Broncos: If Carolina doesn’t want to commit to Larsen at center, Paradis has been one of the NFL’s best over the past three seasons. It’s possible Denver decides not to bring him back — he broke his leg in Week 9.”

What do you think? What moves would you make realistically with our limited cap if you were Gm Hurndog?

I don't think we are as broke as a lot of people think but I'm not sure that is where our free agent dollars go.  I'm thinking we make a run at a better DE.  Also we might resign Williams.

Also depending on what happens with our free agents singing a guy like this could possible cost us a 3rd or 4th round pick, if you consider comp picks.

As it stands right now Funchess and Williams both will probably fetch 4th round or so comp picks.

Despite people saying we are broke, we can get to $40m+ in cap space in a few moves of people who did extremely little for us last year. We can afford to bring Williams back. Add in pick 47, which should be a solid G or C and a FA G or C and we should have a much better starting 5 than last year and some solid backups in Larsen and Van Roten. Need more depth at T, but hopefully we can use some later picks for development and keep Clark/Newhouse for cheap. They aren’t great starters but Clark was good early so maybe he can stay fresh and be good for a game or two if needed.

Agreed. Larsen is a very solid backup and is signed for another two years. He can play guard and center in a pinch and be a solid player. With just one FA signing of Matt Paradis we will have a very solid line and can have Clark/Newhouse for cheap depth or even a draft pick tackle if a good player falls to one of our third round picks (I would absolutly spend round one and two on defense.)

This is who I was talking about the other day. Especially if we lose DW.’ But signing a quality C and a S is easily attainable. And would provide a upgrade. Paying any of the premium positions usually doesn’t work out. Find value in G/Cs, a slow Safety market,

Cam needs protection.  A game or two could be the last straw.  Cheap is why we are where we are now.

I'd rather pursue a pass rusher and/or a safety or Nickelback. I think Larsen is a fine stopgap and we can figure a developmental center in the mid-rounds. Larsen is honestly at least as good as Kalil at this point. We were honestly better statistically offensively last year with Larsen vs. Kalil.

I doubt we would be able to get him too cheap, he's been one of the better centers in the league so he is probably going to be looking for a payday.  Not sure how much the injury will reduce his price.  So the question is, is it worth giving a nearly 30 yr old guy comming off an injury 8 mil or so a year?  If he comes back and plays at the same level, yeah.  If we were to do it Id still like us to take a Center with one of our day 2 picks, insurance and you could probably have the pick play guard.

    • I love this draft because they picked the right OL.  It is possible that we have 2 rookies starting on the OL.  I would take Utah's Lomu as well, but for those who think you find the OL in free agency and not the draft, here is all I have to say:  We cannot give $110m to the 5 starting OL.  We need an infusion of youth on the OL as well.  If Ickey returns and can play, I imagine that he takes over for Hunt at RG--in 2027 or so.  Currently, our 2 guards and right tackle make up over 20% of the total cap.  We have to add 2 starters, but if Cade Mays was too pricey at around (anticipated) $8m, then we plan to draft a C, it seems. I think we draft an OT and C now because we will need a G or 2 and a RT soon.  While they were good in 2026, they were not elite.  For that kind of $$, we need elite.  Is starting a rookie LT and C ideal?  Nope.  But if we can get better than Nijman and Mays, we should be OK. I think we will pick up an ILB in free agency and add an ILB.  Who we draft (Mike or Will) will depend on who we sign.  Rodriguez is a favorite of mine, but if Golday is there, Morgan is going to take him.  Morgan will love him. I do not think we need to overpopulate the edge position right now because we have 1 edge returning from injury (Jones II), one rookie from last year ready to step up and could be really good (Scourton), and another who could be ready to step into the situational pass rusher role (Princely).  2 hold the edge very well and if we had a situational pass rusher to join Princely, we could be much better. I think rookies at Edge tend to jump considerably from their rookie seasons to years 2 and 3.  (Charles Johnson, Mike Rucker, and Greg Hardy were that way-and all became very good in time. Safety seems omitted, but we shall see.  That could be another free agent acquisition.
    • Id like Evans from Duke in the draft as a shooter for the second unit. And probably a more athletic big to replace all, he's good but doesn't really fit the style. White, Evans, green, Williams and center tbd is a pretty good second unit
