Tepper expanding the ring of honor

Let's not throw too wide a net here, guys.

Honors like this are not for the good or the great, but for the elite. If you start putting too many people in here, you might have to "expand" the Ring of Honor to its own building.

Remember, the team is expected to be around for decades to come. You fill up the Ring of Honor now, do you have room to honor the players of the future?

It's the same reason we don't retire the  number of every player who had a good career with us.

Agreed. Smitty and Pep will end up in the HOF. I really like Gross and think he was elite for us, but will not end up in the hall.

Pep and Gross. I would rather wait on Smith or even not at all. Smith was a great WR but not what we should uphold as the best about our organization because of his character flaws, which were and are deep.

Just now, Wolfcop said:

If Steve Smith is not in it then you might as well not have one. If he didn't play with that chip on his shoulder he would not have been as great as he was.

Smith can't hold Peps jock as a player and a person.

See, here's where you have to start talking criteria...

Wanna compare the athleticism of Sam Mills and Luke Kuechly? Uuuhhh...no. But Sam Mills was exceptional for other reasons, and anybody who would question why the Panthers hold him in such high regard probably deserves a kick in the nuts.

Ask who's the better linebacker between the two of them, though? That's a valid discussion.

So is being an elite level player enough, or so you need to have something more?

    • New season new teams. Everyone we face has improved their team as well. There's now a full season of tape on Canales's offense and Bryce running it. When they win 7 games I will become a believer.
    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
